The Legendary Heroes Zacian and Zamazenta are two of the best fighters in Pokemon Go but they can be quite elusive. Here’s how to get the Sword & Shield mascots in Niantic’s game and whether or not they can be Shiny.

Even though Zacian and Zamazenta have been part of Pokemon Go for a while now, they are two of the most hard-to-get Legendaries in the game, with very few appearances since they debuted back in 2021.

Luckily for trainers, the Go Fest 2025 is bringing them back in every celebration to introduce their Crowned forms. So, check everything you need to finally add them to your Pokedex.

How to get Zacian & Zamazenta in Pokemon Go

As Legendaries, there’s only one way to get Zacian and Zamazenta in the game. First, you must defeat them in a 5-Star Raid battle and then attempt to catch them using the limited amount of Premier Balls given to you at the end of the encounter.

The appearance of either Zacian or Zamazenta as Raid Bosses will depend on the Raid rotations or special occasions. The Go Fest in-person and Global events will feature both of them to introduce Crowned Sword Zacian and Crowned Shield Zamazenta to the game.

  • Osaka: May 29 – June 1
  • Jersey City: June 6 – June 8
  • Paris: June 13 – June 15
  • Global: June 28 – June 29

It’s worth noting that to turn regular Zacian and Zamazenta into their Crowned forms, players must use very rare power sources called Crowned Sword Energy and Crowned Shield Energy.

Both Fairy-type Zacian and Fighting-type Zamazenta have two forms: their regular ones known as ‘Hero of Many Battles’ and their alternate forms ‘Crowned Sword’ and ‘Crowned Shield’, respectively.

Besides the physical changes, the alternate forms give the Legendaries the secondary Steel typing, switching their resistances and weaknesses.

These two versions are being introduced during the Go Fest 2025 and will require x1,000 Crowned Energy (each) – and they must know the move Iron Head. This Charged Move will then change to Behemoth Blade (Crowned Sword Zacian) and Behemoth Bash (Crowned Shield Zamazenta)

Crowned Energy

To turn Zacian and Zamazenta into their Crowned Sword and Crowned Shield variations, players will have to gather two new rare sources of power called Crowned Sword Energy and Crowned Shield Energy for each of them, respectively.

Both types of Crowned Energy can be obtained by battling Zacian and Zamazenta in 5-Star Raids or by completing ticketed Special Research.

After the first transformation, trainers will be able to toggle between Hero of Many Battles and Crowned forms without requiring any more Energy.

Moreover, even though they cannot Dynamax or Gigantamax, both Crowned Sword Zacian and Crowned Shield Zamazenta will be allowed to participate in Max Battles.

Zacian & Zamazenta CP in Pokemon Go

As with every Raid Boss in the game, the CP Zacian and Zamazenta have during a Raid battle won’t be the same once you manage to catch them after defeating them. Plus, certain types of weather can increase such CPs.

Can Zacian & Zamazenta be Shiny?

Yes, Zacian and Zamazenta can be Shiny in all their forms in Pokemon Go. Their Shiny Hero of Many Battles forms debuted in 2024 during the Legendary Heroes and Galar Expedition events, respectively.

As for their Crowned forms, they are debuting during the Go Fest 2025 along with their Shiny alternatives, which means lucky players who challenge them during their time as Raid bosses might find them.

In both forms, the differences between regular and Shiny Zacian are subtle, with its body fur getting a little lighter and the usual pink details changing to steel blue. For Zamazenta’s forms, things are more obvious, as its usual red body parts go full fuchsia while its blue details turn burgundy.

Remember that the odds of coming across a Shiny Legendary are very slim, and the only way to increase your chances of an encounter is by challenging them to multiple Raid battles.
