Gen 9’s resident Electric-type rodent, Pawmi, is famous for being quite similar to Pikachu. So, if you’re after this creature with chubby cheeks, here’s how to find Pawmi and whether or not it can be Shiny.
With over a thousand creatures in the franchise, it is not strange that some Pokemon look like others. The list includes the likes of Mudkip and Sobble, Chimchar and Grookey, Plusle and Scorbunny, and, of course, Pikachu and Pawmi.
The Gen 9 rodent was introduced to Niantic’s game during the Ultra Unlock: Paldea event, and since then, players have had different ways to obtain it.
Here’s everything you need to know about catching Pawmi, evolving it, and whether or not it can be Shiny.
How to get Pawmi in Pokemon Go
Pawmi has been part of the game since September 2023, and here are all the ways trainers can get it currently:
- As the headliner of the upcoming Community Day (May 11, 2025)
- As a wild spawn
- As a reward for completing Research tasks
Previously, players could find Pawmi as a Tier 1 Raid boss and were also able to hatch it from 5km Eggs, though the recent rotations took it out of the available pool.
If you’re struggling to find one, you can use Incense to boost the number of Pokemon that spawn in your radius. You can also check the ‘Nearby’ feature to see if there are any Pawmi in your area.
How to evolve Pawmi into Pawmo and Pawmot
Pawmi is part of a three-member family, which means a lot of Candy (and a special requirement) is needed to evolve it all the way through its final stage.
To evolve Pawmi into Pawmo, players will need to collect 25 Candy. Then, they must collect an extra 100 Candy to turn Pawmo into its final form, Pawmot.
However, for the final evolution to be triggered, players must walk 25km while having Pawmo as their Buddy.

If you’re struggling to collect enough Candy, focus on catching as many as you can out in the wild while using Pinap Berries to increase the amount of Candy you receive per catch. Then, you can transfer your extra Pawmi to Professor Willow in exchange for a few more.
You can even set the Pokemon as your Buddy and take it for long walks, or trade your Rare Candy for more Pawmi Candy.

Can Pawmi be Shiny?
Yes, Pawmi can be Shiny in Pokemon Go, as this special variation is about to be added to the game during Pawmi’s Community Day on May 11, 2025.
Shiny hunters won’t have any trouble spotting Shiny Pawmi, as its normal orange fur changes to bright pink, turning the Pokemon into a very eye-catching rodent.
Subsequently, those who evolve a Shiny Pawmi into a Shiny Pawmo and Shiny Pawmot will obtain their pink versions, too.
It’s worth noting, though, that the odds of finding a Shiny Pokemon are very low, as there’s no special technique or method to secure an encounter. The only thing trainers can do to increase their chances is to hunt as many Pawmi as they can until they come across what they’re looking for.
That’s all there is to know about Pawmi in Pokemon Go. Don’t forget to check out the latest Pokemon Go events, including the current Community Day and Spotlight Hours.
