Originally appearing in Diamond & Pearl, the Lake Guardian trio debuted in Niantic’s mobile game back in 2019, becoming the first Legendaries to spawn in the overworld.
Unfortunately, even though they spawn in the wild, catching these three Psychic-type creatures relies on sheer luck and location, as they are region-locked.
However, there are ways to greatly improve your odds of encountering Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf. So, learn how to do so.
How to get Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf in Pokemon Go
Since their debuts, the ways of encountering Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf have remained the same:
- As wild encounters
- As Tier 5 Raid bosses (currently from May 12, 2025 – May 25, 2025)
- As rewards for completing Research tasks
All three Legendaries can be found in the wild, but they are considered extremely rare, which means their odds of spawning are ridiculously low. Plus, they are region locked, so players searching for them in the wild would have to travel to different continents to get them all – if they don’t wish to trade them.

- Uxie: Asia-Pacific region
- Mesprit: Europe, Middle East, Africa & India
- Azelf: Americas & Greenland
The most accessible method without a doubt is going after them when they appear as Raid bosses, which will happen soon, from May 12, 2025, until May 25, 2025, as part of the final rotations of the Might and Mastery season.

Can Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf be Shiny?
Yes, all three of the Lake Guardians – Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf – can be Shiny in Pokemon Go, as these alternative special versions were added to the game in September 2021.
Spotting Shiny Uxie, Shiny Mesprit, and Shiny Azelf is extremely easy, as their standard gray-blue bodies change to bright yellow. Moreover, their head colors turn a couple of tones deeper, giving them a more somber look.
It’s worth noting, though, that the odds of finding a Shiny Pokemon are very low, as there’s no special technique or method to secure an encounter. The only thing you can do to increase your chances is to hunt as many Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf as you can until you come across what you’re looking for.
The good news is that if you do find one while battling, all Shiny Raid Pokemon have a guaranteed catch rate, so the only challenge is completing the Raid itself.
