The Grass-type Fomantis first appeared in Pokemon Sun & Moon and was introduced to Niantic’s game during the Lush Jungle event back in 2022, along with its evolution Lurantis.
While there are a series of ways trainers can get themselves a Fomantis, it is – up to this day – a relatively rare Pokemon to get in the game. So, here’s how you can catch this elusive creature in Pokemon Go.
How to get Fomantis in Pokemon Go
This small creature is still a difficult Pokemon to spot. However, players looking for Fomantis can currently find it:
- As the headliner of the April 15, 2025, Spotlight Hour
- As a wild spawn
- As a reward for completing Special or Field Research tasks
Previously, players could find Fomantis as a Tier 1 Raid boss and were also able to hatch it from 2km and 7km Eggs, but the more recent rotations took it out of the available pool.
Being a rare Pokemon means players will have trouble getting the required amount of Candy to evolve it into Lurantis, so events such as the Spotlight Hour are the ideal opportunities to do so.
How to evolve Fomantis into Lurantis
This creature only has one evolution, and getting it is quite simple, though you’ll require a special condition.
To evolve Fomantis into its final form, Lurantis, you’ll need to collect 50 Candy. But that’s not all. In order to trigger the evolution process, it must be daytime, otherwise, it won’t work.
DEXERTOIf you’re struggling to collect enough Candy, focus on catching as many as you can out in the wild while using Pinap Berries to increase the amount you receive per catch. Then, you can transfer your extra Fomantis to Professor Willow in exchange for a few more.
You can even set the Pokemon as your Buddy and take it for long walks, or trade your Rare Candy for Fomantis Candy.

Can Fomantis be Shiny?
Yes, Fomantis can be Shiny in Pokemon Go, as this special variation was added to the game at the beginning of the Solstice Horizons event in June 2023.
Shiny hunters can recognize Shiny Fomantis by its yellow body and green eyes, which are normally light and deep pink, respectively.
Having a Shiny base form means that players who evolve a Shiny Fomantis will be able to get a Shiny Lurantis. This Pokemon, similar to its previous stage, has yellow and green tones.
It’s worth noting, though, that the odds of finding a Shiny Pokemon are very low, as there’s no special technique or method to secure an encounter. The only thing trainers can do to increase their chances is to hunt as many Fomantis as they can until they come across what they’re looking for.
