Ruby & Sapphire’s Legendary mascots – Kyogre and Groudon – will return as Raid bosses in June. As two of the most powerful Pokemon in the game, especially when in their Primal forms, you need to get them on your team as soon as possible.
The Legendary whale offers up a serious challenge but can be taken down fairly easily with the right counters, so here’s all you need to know before facing the best Water-type Pokemon in Niantic’s game.
Kyogre weaknesses in Pokemon Go
As a pure Water-type Pokemon, the Legendary Kyogre is only weak to Electric and Grass-type moves, so make sure your team’s type focuses on those two choices if you want to take it down fast.
Instead, the mighty whale is resistant to Fire, Ice, Steel, and Water, so better to avoid using any of those types of Pokemon or attacks, as they won’t deal too much damage.

How to get Kyogre in Pokemon Go
Like with all the other Legendaries, Kyogre can only be obtained through Raid battles in Pokemon Go. This means trainers will have to challenge and defeat it to then attempt a catch with the Premier Balls given – the number they get will depend on their performance during the battle.
Players looking to catch Kyogre can find it in the game between June 14, 2025, and June 23, 2025, when it will be replaced by Cobalion. Moreover, it will be featured in a Raid Hour on June 18, 2025, from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM local time.

To turn a regular Kyogre into its Primal form, players will need 400 Primal Kyogre Energy to kick off the process, which can be triggered on the Pokemon’s main page.
The Primal Reversion is a process that allows both Kyogre and Groudon to regain their true power by absorbing the energy of nature that surrounds us, and similar to Mega Evolutions, you can activate it only for a limited time.
