Overwatch 2 streamers are gushing over the new 6v6 open queue experimental competitive mode, saying it’s how the game should be.
Overwatch 2’s mid-season 15 update introduced lots of new content, like a second collab with LE SSERAFIM and balance updates that failed to address some of the strongest DPS characters. One of the biggest new additions was a temporary competitive mode for 6v6, an open queue with no restrictions aside from a max of two tanks.
Many in the community have been clamoring for the game to return to 6v6 for a long time, but previous playtests of the mode were criticized for the lack of a competitive ladder to incentivize play and odd team restrictions.
Now, with the current 6v6 format and a separate competitive queue, many in the content creator community are coming out with nothing but praise for this new potential direction of Overwatch.
Overwatch 2 streamers love the new 6v6 format
Creators who have primarily swapped to Marvel Rivals as a main game returned to Overwatch to try out the new 6v6 mode, including Samito, who is often highly critical of the game.
“Overwatch 2 open queue 6v6 with Perks is the most fun I’ve had playing Overwatch in YEARS,” said Samito. “Perks update without question the best update the Overwatch team has ever made.”
Flats, another Overwatch 2 streamer who nowadays primarily plays Marvel, tweeted out his praises of 6v6 and reiterated his position that this is how the game should be played.
“Tbh I did not expect to enjoy 6v6 comp as much as I do,” Flats said. “Holy f*ck, this is the way.”

KarQ, known for his informational videos about the game, stated that he hopes 5v5 and 6v6 can coexist together as there are pros (and cons) for both modes.
“Still needs a bit of balancing but 6v6 with Perks is actually great,” KarQ stated. “Both 5v5 and 6v6 need to, and CAN coexist as the core game.”
“Okay ngl 6v6 open queue with 2 tanks is a lot of fun,” said Jay3, another former Overwatch streamer. “Too bad it’s only [for] a limited time.”
Blizzard will still need to gauge the popularity and longevity of 6v6, as they’ve stated the mode can only come back permanently if there is enough engagement. For now, players can continue playing the mode until the start of Season 16, where it will likely be retired and analyzed for a future return.
