Overwatch players are calling for the nerf of a dominant DPS character, Sojourn, who has become even stronger thanks to the introduction of Hero Perks.
Hero Perks in Overwatch has helped made the once stagnant game feel fresh again, allowing players to level up characters and unlock new abilities as they play their hero throughout a match. And while Hero Perks have landed positively within the community, there are still many concerns about hero balance, especially since the mechanic is still in its infancy.
One of the big winners of the Hero Perks patch is Sojourn, a historically strong character since her introduction and one who has gotten even stronger with the perks she received. Not all perks are created equal, but Sojourn’s are certainly a step above some of the other heroes in the game. She is so strong that many Overwatch players are calling for prompt nerfs to the character.
Overwatch players are getting tired of seeing Sojourn
A viral thread rallied for the nerf of Sojourn, with the player “unbearably sick” of seeing Sojourn in every match.
“She is in, and I do not exaggerate, nearly every single match I play,” they wrote. “She completely dominates in every single match…she’s so gamebreakingly overtuned it’s not funny.”
Sojourn received some strong perks which leveled up her game. For her minor perks, Sojourn is able to pick between increasing her maximum ammo or increasing her maximum energy during her Ultimate. But the strongest perk is arguably of her major perks, Dual Thrusters, which gives her an additional Power Slide charge and shifts her jump height.
“Her ability to power slide at Mach Jesus, then yeet herself into the air whilst spinning like a top and manipulate her hitbox in combat feels oppressive in duels,” wrote one user. “Meanwhile she’s become a go-to alternative for Widow because of her better combat mobility, utility, sustained damage output, ultimate, and pseudo-one-shot from her railgun…”
Twitch streamer NEUU demonstrated Sojourn’s new mobility, slingshotting across the map and picking off unknowing foes whilst maintaining vertical movement. NEUU also took Sojourn’s Overcharged perk, increasing Overdrive’s maximum energy to 150 and allowing her to more effectively one-shot targets.
Hero Perks are still new and many OW2 players are more understanding about shoddier balance as the system feels more like a first draft. Still, it’s imperative that Blizzard still balance the game properly and eliminate as many outliers as possible, such as Sojourn.
