Overwatch 2 streamers explain why they’ve returned to OW after quitting for Marvel Rivals

Some Overwatch 2 streamers may have moved to Marvel Rivals, but others have jumped back to playing the game that made them famous.
With the release of Marvel Rivals, many of Overwatch’s most prolific streamers have dropped the game and decided to primarily play the newer hero shooter instead. Streamers like Bogur, Eskay, and Jay3 rarely play Overwatch anymore, which has disappointed some fans who initially discovered the game through them.
While Marvel Rivals certainly has its advantages, Overwatch 2 hasn’t given up the fight with tons of new content on the horizon. Now that the dust between the two games has settled somewhat, many Overwatch 2 streamers have stated their intent to stick with Blizzard’s hero shooter and why Marvel Rivals doesn’t scratch the same itch.
Some streamers are sticking with Overwatch 2
One of Overwatch 2’s most successful streamers, Dafran, has stated that he prefers Overwatch to Marvel Rivals. One primary difference between the two hero shooters is a higher emphasis on shooter elements in Overwatch 2, while Marvel Rivals is more ability-based.
“Overwatch is more about individual skill,” Dafran said. “Marvel Rivals is [pretty much] just about what hero you pick and ults. It’s very different.”
Another streamer, Apply, cited Marvel Rivals’ performance issues as why he didn’t switch games. Marvel Rivals is frequently criticized for its poor optimization and performance issues, and it doesn’t appear to have improved significantly since its release.
“It’s just not polished yet,” Apply said. “Maybe I’ll come whenever it feels better, but as of right now, it doesn’t feel like a good game. I have a good PC [but] I can barely run the game dude…Overwatch doesn’t get enough credit for how polished it is.”
One streamer, Chazm, stated that Overwatch 2 is fundamentally a better game than Marvel Rivals, but the latter has a more entertaining format that helps contribute to its popularity.

“I feel like objectively [Overwatch 2] is better,” Chazm said. “The thing is, Rivals has bans, 6v6, and open queue. If Overwatch gets [these things] and Perks, Overwatch is going to be infinitely better.”
Many Overwatch 2 mainstays such as Aspen, Emongg, and Frogger have stuck with Blizzard’s hero shooter, and generally, it seems like audiences are finding content to enjoy for both games. With both titles coexisting, it’s nice to see both games carving out their own niches within the content creator community, and it’s also encouraging that not everyone left the OG.
