Overwatch 2’s fifteenth season launched with an incredible amount of new content, and players are so happy that Steam reviews are beginning to rebound.

Overwatch introduced Hero Perks, a brand new system that allows players to customize characters with new abilities mid-match as you level these heroes up. It’s a major gameplay swing, allowing Tracer to get up to six blinks or Echo to reset her flight after certain kills.

Hero Perks were a much-needed breath of fresh air for Overwatch, a game growing stagnant in the face of new competition from Marvel Rivals. In addition, Blizzard also brought back loot boxes for players to earn more cosmetics for free as well as promises of hero bans and new character releases.

The new content has been so successful for Overwatch’s audience that Steam reviews, once cursed as Steam’s “worst game of all time,” have begun to rebound in a more positive direction.

Overwatch audience reviews are slowly improving

While there was undoubtedly some amount of review bombing, Overwatch’s release on Steam was mostly met with negativity. During this time, Overwatch had released a disappointing three-mission PvE campaign for $15 and players were expressing their dissatisfaction with the swap to a free-to-play model.

However, with the dev team taking greater risks with Hero Perks and a more free-to-play friendly cosmetics system, players are posting more positive reviews.

“I really like what the dev team has put out so far,” wrote one reviewer. “I like [Overwatch 2] more than I ever did in the past to be honest. They now listen to feedback and don’t mind taking a few risks. Let’s hope everyone moves on from the mess between [Overwatch 1 & 2].

Another reviewer was satisfied with the direction Overwatch 2 was heading, but is still wary of the game’s future.

“I can finally recommend Overwatch for everyone who wants a cool hero shooter that can be both casual and competitive with a cool history behind [it] and now [more] rewards for engaging with the game,” the reviewer said. “…but I will not put my expectations too high so I don’t fall with [my] face in the ground again.”

Recent reviews are still “Mixed,” with many review bombers inundating the game with negative reviews with comparisons to Marvel Rivals or a fixation on Blizzard’s past. Still, Overwatch 2 is finally heading towards a direction where it may earn its sequel status, and the future looks bright.
