Overwatch 2 may have accidentally teased hero 45, a Tank character players speculate will wield a giant sword.
Overwatch 2 has already officially announced the next two playable heroes coming to the game. The first is Freja, a crossbow-wielding DPS character who rewards high skill with her aim-intensive kit. After her, Blizzard will release Aqua, who we know can control water in some form and will also be a support.
While the Overwatch team hasn’t officially revealed anything beyond that, some fans have requested a “hero with a giant sword,” which Game Director Aaron Keller indicated on stream is a concept the team has been looking into. Additionally, a doodle of hero 45 was spotted during the Overwatch Spotlight event.
For more credence to this theory, some fans have discovered we might be getting that giant sword character as hero 45 thanks to an accidental placeholder description discovered by Reddit.
A gladiator is coming to the arena
One Reddit user discovered a placeholder description in Brigitte’s hero gallery reading “Gladiators Gonna Gladiate,” which is pretty damning proof that Blizzard is planning on releasing a melee, gladiator-themed character in the future.
This incident calls back to a similar moment when Juno was first teased as Space Ranger. Fans discovered a placeholder voiceline that leaked Juno’s Speed Ring ability. Following the pattern of DPS > Support > Tank releases and accounting for the other evidence, what we can expect for hero 45 seems to be solidified at the moment.
“They’re [probably] testing her using Brigitte’s assets because she does not have a model yet, and it went to live server,” speculated one user.
While a melee gladiator hero seems all but confirmed for the future at this point, anything is still technically possible until an official announcement. We’ll likely get more information about hero 45 closer to Aqua’s release, so stay tuned for more information.
