BlizzardOverwatch 2 is already on track for Season 15 and the next major content drop is just around the corner. And it’s shaping up to be one of the biggest updates in Overwatch 2 history.
We’ve now been in the Overwatch 2 era for over two years, and while Blizzard’s hero shooter is certainly facing some stiff competition now with Marvel Rivals taking over, devs are still barrelling ahead with new seasonal updates like clockwork.
However, Blizzard have responded in force with some massive changes coming in the near future, changes the developers have been working on for years. There’s a lot to take in.
So to get you all up to speed, here’s the full look at everything you need to know about Overwatch 2 Season 15.
Overwatch 2 Season 15 start date
Overwatch 2 Season 15 will start on February 18, 2025.
This is currently marked as the end date for Season 14, and as always, the next season rolls over on the very same day. The new update is expected to go live at 10AM PST / 1PM EST / 6PM GMT, keeping in line with previous seasonal patch timings.
Perks system added
Overwatch 2 is getting a completely new Perk system. Players who perform well will be rewarded with permanent buffs to their hero that come in branching paths.
In other words, you can only pick one or the other.
For instance, Ana can choose to either be able to crit enemies with headshots or enhance her Nano Boost to buff herself up when used.
Every hero has minor and major perks they can select, and we’ve got a full list of every perk for every hero in our guide if you’re interested in what each hero can do. These perks will be a permanent part of both Quick Play and Competitive modes starting in Season 15.
There’s also a Stadium mode in the works that’ll allow you to purchase Perks with currency earned from in-game performance, but that won’t be around until Season 16.
Loot Boxes
Loot Boxes are coming back! Though they were a divisive part of Overwatch in the past, they’ve been re-instated as a something players can only earn via in-game progress.
Additionally, players can get Legendary skins from loot boxes, giving free-to-play users a way to get their hands on some premium skins if they’re willing to grind and have fortune on their side.
Lunar New Year skins
Coinciding with Season 15 is Overwatch 2’s return to the Chinese market. After years off the grid due to publisher disagreements, Blizzard and NetEase are back on the same page and OW2 is being restored in the region as a result.
On Chinese social media platform Rednote, Game Director Aaron Keller teased a number of exclusive skins and events just for Chinese players to enjoy. They will also be able to unlock older Mythic-tier skins from previous Battle Passes they missed.
However, beyond China, all players can expect new Lunar New Year cosmetics, though it’s unclear which heroes will be featured at the time of writing. Furthermore, Keller also teased players can expect some new playable content as part of the event.
BlizzardRanked reset and Galactic skins
Along with a rank reset, this Season will see Jade weapons rolling out as the main weapon camo you get from queuing comp games. Now, it’ll be replaced by Galactic skins.
And, though Jade skins won’t be the featured skin for the season, they won’t be going away forever. They’ll still be purchasable just like gold skins.
Freja hero trial
Freja has been revealed and will be coming to Overwatch 2 in Season 16. However, it’s been confirmed she’ll have a hero trial some time this season that’ll give players a chance to try her out.
