Overwatch 2 players convinced Maximilien’s Vault is completely broken

Maximilien's Vault in Overwatch 2

Overwatch 2’s Maximilien Vault is still disappointing the community, giving away discounts for characters that players don’t often play.

Maximilien’s Vault is Overwatch 2’s take on League of Legends’ ‘Your Shop’ or Valorant’s ‘Night Market,’ granting players a generous discount for skins they don’t own. These skins are supposed to be tailored to your most played heroes, but this doesn’t seem to be the case in practice.

For a second time, Maximilien’s Vault has players disappointed in their selection of discounts, as players report they are receiving skins for characters they don’t play. The first iteration of the vault had similar complaints, but this subsequent release didn’t seem to improve on any of the feedback given around the first time.

Maximilien’s Vault may not be working as intended

As Maximilien’s Vault does not seem to be working as intended, players took to social media to report their shops and issue complaints about the system.

“I actually don’t think I’ve been given a single skin from the vault for my top [five] most played heroes,” one user said.

“Mine was literally nothing but Reinhardt skins,” another player said. “I’ve played Rein TWICE in 500+ hours.”

Players stated that you might be receiving randomized skins if you haven’t opted into “In-Game Recommendations” through the Battle.net client or site. However, even players with recommendations turned on are reporting random shops.

“I’m almost certain this isn’t true [and] if Blizzard is claiming it to be, they’re also lying,” said one player. “I’m definitely opting in and not a single skin is for one of my mains on both of these Vault things.”

Some players have speculated that there could be some semblance of recency bias, such as taking from your most played during the current season instead. However, this doesn’t always seem to be the case, either.

For instance, one player received five DPS skins in their shop despite “not touching” the DPS role for two seasons in a row.

For now, Blizzard’s algorithm for Maximilien’s Vault remains a complete mystery, as the community isn’t completely sure of how Maximilien’s Vault works. Some players get skins for heroes they actually play while others are left out to dry.

Considering widespread player dissatisfaction with the system, their algorithm for picking the heroes in which players get discounted skins for may need some tuning.
