Wuyang is coming to Overwatch 2 in Season 18, but Blizzard may have sneakily revealed another upcoming hero in his trailer.
Ever since OW2 launched, Blizzard has committed to releasing a hero every two seasons, meaning that fans are never too far away from the next new face. Next up on the schedule is Wuyang, a new support character who wields water to his advantage.
Players got the opportunity to try him out as part of his hero trial in Season 17, and at Gamescom we got a real look at his backstory. But in the animated trailer, players think that another future playable character was revealed — his sister Anran.
OW2 players think Anran is coming as a hero
The short story explores the relationship between the siblings, with Wuyang being a 1st year student at Wuxing University’s Water College, and Anran being the more talented 4th year student at Fire College.
After Wuyang is suddenly invited to join the Overwatch team, the two square off when Wuyang starts to doubt himself. He eventually gets the best of his sister, but the big twist is that she has also been invited to join the squad.
With this in mind, many OW2 players are now convinced that the fire-wielding Anran will be added to the game in the future. “Ok so we now know who hero 45 is lol,” said one fan on Reddit.
Game Director Aaron Keller later said at Gamescom, “I feel like we’ll be seeing more of her in future stories,” adding to the speculation.
It’s worth noting that there have been many popular characters who have appeared in animated shorts or other bits of lore, such as Emre and Maximilian, who have never made it into the game. However, given that Anran is actually invited to Overwatch in this trailer, she has a stronger chance than most to make the jump.
