Marvel Rivals reveals Season 1.5 change that’ll make getting skins easier

In a new update, Marvel Rivals developers confirmed a Chrono Tokens adjustment that will make getting skins easier in Season 1.5.

The hero shooter from NetEase launched with three different types of in-game currency – Chrono Tokens, Lattice, and Units. The former replaces traditional XP in that it’s what players use to unlock Battle Pass rewards.

Lattice represents the premium currency obtained by spending real money, and Units allow players to purchase cosmetic items in the in-game store. They remain on your account until you choose to spend them.

But Chrono Tokens have especially proven divisive since they reset at the start of each season to prevent players from carrying over excess earnings. This means that those who continue to do challenges after completing the Battle Pass aren’t rewarded for the extra effort. However, that will change very soon.

Marvel Rivals announces massive change to Chrono Tokens

In Marvel Rivals‘ Dev Vision Vol. 4 video, Creative Director Guangguang said the team has listened to user feedback and understands how “frustrating it can be when [Chrono Tokens] don’t carry over.”

With that in mind, NetEase will introduce a new redemption system in the second-half of Season 1 that allows players to convert their surplus Chrono Tokens into Units once their Battle Pass is completed.

The director explained, “if you purchase the Luxury Battle Pass and redeem all its rewards, you will be able to convert any leftover Chrono Tokens for Units at a specific ratio.”

Guangguang added that the goal is to ensure Marvel Rivals players never feel unrewarded for their efforts. This major adjustment to the currency model should go a long way in accomplishing as much.

The conversion should also help make unlocking skins in the shop a tad easier. Up until this change, players primarily earned Units by completing achievements, a grind that not everyone finds appealing and has a finite end point.

Now, players who grind the game for dozens and dozens of hours will be rewarded.

That said, specifics about the conversion rate from Chrono Tokens to Units will likely remain under wraps until the mid-season update goes live on Friday, February 21, so it’s unclear how fast players will be able to earn Units with this method.
