Marvel Rivals players have all but exhausted their collective patience over an unexpected frustration—and it’s all thanks to The Thing’s arrival.
As one player put it: “Please….Just please stop.” The plea was accompanied by an image flooded with endless jokes using the phrase “Here’s the thing,” a pun that has taken over lobbies and the community ever since Ben Grimm was released on February 21.
Despite The Thing only being available in Marvel Rivals for mere days, fans are already fed up with the relentless spam taking over the game.
The Thing is driving Marvel Rivals players “crazy”
“It’s so f**king corny. S**t stopped being funny after a week,” a player said, as the post gained over 24K likes in under a day.
Another added: “They all get so many upvotes too. Maybe I’m crazy, but it was cringe-unfunny the first time I saw it and it’s shocking to me how every Marvel fan apparently thinks it’s funny forever,” to which one replied, “I too cannot stand recycled jokes.”
However, many others just commented with even more jokes. “Acting like things have ben grim recently. It’s been fantastic four the community really. They’ve been on fire, and to say that the jokes will disappear is a stretch.”
“I will not stop because that joke is FANTASTIC,” one said, as various fans echoed the typical format, “I respect your opinion, but here’s the thing…”
A player revealed an example of a live chat message interaction, “That storm combo is gonna be a problem,” one player said, as they replied, “Here’s the thing. It’s looking grim,” to which the other responded, “Run that by me again?”

Meanwhile, another stated, “Honestly I’m disappointed by the lack of “HEEEEEEEEERE’S JOHNNY” as Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch, was also added with the big orange boulder as a new hero on February 21.
Whether you’re one of the minions spamming The Thing puns in every match or someone who’s completely over them, one thing is certain—as long as The Thing is in Marvel Rivals, the jokes aren’t going anywhere, and they’ll likely continue to frustrate players for a long time to come.
Despite this, The Thing has received a flurry of praise over NetEase adding a particular MVP animation and skin that fans have called ” absolute cinema” due to it paying homage to the character’s original comic book roots.
But, it’s the Human Torch’s pairing with a separate iconic character that has become an unstoppable duo, even with it’s one major counter.
