Sweeping changes to a level’s layout can occur mid-match during Marvel Rivals games to the chagrin of some players.
For instance, the Hell’s Heaven Domination map shuffles around platforms and train cars, sometimes trapping players in corners if they’re not paying attention to their surroundings.
But other frustrations have arisen because of shifting environments, too, with one user pointing out how the sudden changes adversely affect certain Doctor Strange gameplay strategies.
Marvel Rivals’ shifting maps make Doctor Strange portals unreliable
Redditor goldgallo shared footage of themselves meticulously placing a Doctor Strange portal, only for their plans to be thwarted when the Grand Central Terminal section of the Midtown map started rebuilding itself.
Instead of the portal transporting Strange as intended, it dropped him back off outside the train station as if nothing had happened.
The player said this is not the first time they have encountered the issue, then noted that they’ve been blamed by teammates in the past for portal strategies not working out. “It’s not our fault the environment wants to change around you and remove your portal,” the user wrote.
Others in the thread agreed that abrupt level shifts can prove frustrating more often than not. As one person explained, “The levels doing this is neat in concept, but getting blocked, trapped, or canceled like this leaves a lot to be desired with the mechanic.”
A different user called the changing environments one of their “least favorite features of the game.”
And it is especially frustrating for Doctor Strange mains who despise how the disruption still puts the portal ability on a cooldown. However, others argue eliminating the cooldown could result in players abusing the system to spy on their enemies.
