NeteaseMarvel Rivals’ Season 1.5 is upon us, bringing a wide range of new features, from additional maps, skins, tons of buffs and nerfs, and of course two new characters. What comes with those characters are Lord Icons, which have always been a point of contention among the community.
This is no different with the new arrivals, The Thing and Human Torch, who are already subject to community frustration. While fans are loving their announced skins, cinematic MVP animations, and seemingly overpowered abilities, some are already slamming the design of the Human Torch’s Lord Icon.
Marvel Rivals players label Human Torch Icon “worst lord portrait”
His normal Icon showcases the Human Torch looking to the right with flames in his hair and on his shoulders. The Lord Icon has him looking to the left, with the same amount of fire in his hair, but more around the base of the Icon itself, and fans are convinced it’s not enough of a change.
Sharing their frustrations on Reddit, one user posted the comparison, asking “Is this seriously Human Torch Lord Icon?”
They went on to add “All he did was slightly turn his head -50 degrees” with a crying face. However, despite their disappointment, they also added that they “don’t wanna complain too much tho because the devs are cooking with everything else” referring to the hype around Season 1.5.
Regardless, hundreds of players took to the comments, with some arguing that, while they “love the game,” “the Lord icons are just lazy asset flips with a yellowish glow around them. It just screams ‘last minute’ thing they put into the mastery rewards because they took stuff like sprays and banners out to put in the BP and store.”

Others slammed the designs, calling it “the new worst Lord portrait” and labeling the design “quite lame.” They went on to explain that due to the similarities, “You can’t even tell which one is lord unless you’re really in the know.”
Of course, not all fans were frustrated with the designs, arguing that it was very on-brand for Human Torch, given his love for himself.
“When you’re this hot, the Lord icon will just look the same” joked one player, with another commenting “Looking good bro! You too bro!”
As previously mentioned, Lord Icons have been a point of frustration among fans since Marvel Rivals came out, despite the love for the characters and their gameplay, and it seems Human Torch will lie among those frustrations.
