Clone Rumble was leaked as a brand-new Marvel Rival’s mode arriving in an upcoming update that pits teams of the same hero against each other, and it’s as ridiculous as it sounds.
Marvel Rivals is built on strategy. Like assembling the Avengers, every team needs the right mix of heroes— tanks, healers, and damage dealers— all working together to counter their opponents. But Clone Rumble? That’s less “Earth’s Mightiest Heroes” and more “What If…?” gone wrong.
While details about the exact rules are still unclear, such as whether it’s strictly single-character teams as the leaks suggest, or if team sizes will be reduced from the standard 6v6, it already seems to undermine what makes Marvel Rivals work: team synergy and strategic play.
Just like Overwatch, the game thrives on the interplay of different hero abilities, counters, and roles. Clone Rumble throws all of that out the window.

Instead, it smells just like a Fortnite Marvel Limited-Time-Mode. Sure, it might be fun to recreate the iconic Spider-Man meme, or for a match or two with your friends, but when the novelty wears off, you’ll be rushing in like Quicksilver and then scurrying back to the main modes just as fast.
And if that’s not enough, just imagine six Doctor Stranges endlessly spamming portals against another six Doctor Stranges, or any other rage-inducing matchup. That’s not a fun shake-up, it’s a multiversal migraine.
Is there any hope for Clone Rumble?
Unless the developers reveal more details or make key adjustments, the early signs point to Clone Rumble being far too chaotic to enjoy. And while Thanos isn’t in Marvel Rivals as a playable character yet, this mode might just disappear faster than if he had snapped it out of existence, and then we can all just forget about it.
Marvel Rivals is still as fresh as a daisy, having launched just this December, with an endless roster of characters and rich lore drawn from the beloved Marvel comics and MCU, setting it up for years of success. It saw soaring player counts right out of the gate, so adding Clone Rumble now feels more like a hasty afterthought than a meaningful addition.
Instead of chasing gimmicks, let’s focus on perfecting the competitive heart of Rivals—the one that got us all hooked in the first place.
