Marvel Rivals desperately needs this Overwatch 2 feature to improve matchmaking

Marvel Rivals desperately needs to take a note from Overwatch 2 and incorporate this feature that will greatly improve matchmaking.

Marvel Rivals and Overwatch 2 share many similarities, and while the war between the two games is beginning to cool down a bit, there’s still room for comparison and ways each game can learn from the other.

One common issue Marvel Rivals players have is on the issue of matchmaking, with many players dissatisfied at the state of snowballs and overwhelming losses or victories. A way both games counter this is through the “avoid a teammate” feature, but Overwatch 2 has a much better avoid system that Marvel Rivals can learn from.

The solution is simple: more avoid slots

Marvel Rivals, as of this writing, only allows you to avoid three teammates at one time. This is similar to Overwatch 2’s initial iteration of this feature, but has proven to be insufficient to the community. While you can swap out which teammates you avoid at will, players desire more avoid slots.

“[Three] just isn’t enough,” wrote one player. “It needs to at least be in the double digits. The amount of DPS main character syndrome players I play with is astonishing.”

Overwatch 2 allows for up to fifteen avoid slots and lets users “pin” three players to guarantee they never show up in your games. For the other twelve slots, they still have a chance to appear, but only as an absolute last resort.

While adding more avoid slots to Marvel Rivals would be a strong addition, some players suggested alternative solutions as an increase of avoids may increase queue times.

“They should rather let us give recommendations to players we want to play with and the option to stay in a party after a match,” suggested one user, a feature Overwatch 2 does technically have but is rarely utilized.

Still, in Overwatch 2, the avoid feature is something players use liberally, and the addition of more slots was brought on through popular demand. An upgrade to the avoid teammate feature in Marvel Rivals would be a solid way for players to have a little more agency over their matchmaking, which would be a massive improvement overall.
