20. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (2025)

What it’s about: This turn-based fantasy RPG takes place in a dark fantasy version of France, where every year, a mysterious entity called ‘The Paintress’ paints a number, and everyone of that age disappears. You set out on the 33rd expedition to stop her.
Why we like it: With its astounding world design, innovative combat, and emotionally charged story, Clair Obscur: Expedition is a modern masterpiece. This beautifully realized fantasy world is the perfect setting for this dark story, where you truly care about every character you meet, in no small part due to its fantastic cast, which includes Charlie Cox, Jennifer English, and Andy Serkis.
Combine all that with a deep combat system that blends traditional turn-based strategy with real-time mechanics, and you’ve got one of the best games of all time. Check out our Expedition 33 review, where we called it “a storytelling masterclass.”
