MAD Lions reverse sweep Rogue to claim maiden LEC title: final placements & recap

MAD Lions reverse sweep Rogue to win maiden LEC Spring 2021 title.

MAD Lions have become the fourth-ever European champions after pulling off a sensational reverse sweep over title favorites Rogue in the LEC Spring 2021 grand finals, punching their tickets to MSI 2021 in Iceland next month.

  • MAD Lions pull off reverse sweep after Rogue win first two games.
  • Victors join Fnatic, G2 Esports, and Alliance as fourth-ever LEC champions.
  • 3-2 win earns MAD Lions spot in Iceland at MSI 2021.

LEC Spring 2021 looked set to be a two-horse race between G2 Esports and Rogue.

It took all five games in Berlin, but the young MAD Lions roster defied that script, pulling off a stunning 3-2 reverse sweep against their favored rivals.

Rogue opened their finals account early, moving to a 2-0 lead as Trymbi and Inspired set a tempo on Summoner’s Rift that MAD Lions just simply couldn’t compete with. Instead, they brought out their answer in the Game 3 draft — a cocky “3-2, reverse sweep” claim from İrfan “Armut” Tükek, and Wukong top.

It was a draft-change gamble that paid off for the young Lions.

Armut went on to claim 11 kills and five assists on the Monkey King in the next two games to force it to five. Once there, Marek “Humanoid” Brázda came alive on Viktor, piling on seven kills, five assists, and dishing out an incredible 28k to lead MAD Lions to the European throne.

MAD Lions will now prepare to represent the LEC at MSI 2021 in May.

Armut carried MAD Lions to a fifth-game decider with back-to-back Wukong games.
