League of Legends patch 25.04 notes: Mel & Elise support changes, Honor Revamp & more

Mel Medarda in counsel

League of Legends just increased the attack speed cap for the first time in over a decade in patch 25.S1.3, and this next update has a huge focus on adjusting champions to fit that cap, along with some Mel adjustments.

Mel has been one of the most controversial champion releases in recent years, with her having a deceptively low win rate due to just releasing while being incredibly oppressive in pro play and high MMR matches. She’s pretty much permabanned.

Elise is also getting some attention, with her Human Form W getting some slight nerfs and her jungle clear getting heavy buffs. She’ll still be a viable support, but she’s now a much better jungler.

If you’re wondering why the patch title format has changed, Riot confirmed in the details of this patch that the previous system wasn’t hitting the mark in terms of clarity of communication.

So, with some pretty significant changes to tank items, ADC items, and a bunch of other tweaks to meta outliers, here’s everything you need to know about patch 25.04.

When is patch 25.04 launching?

LoL patch 25.04 is launching on February 19, 2025. There will be a short downtime early in the day, depending on the time zone. Servers typically go down for an hour or two and are back up to hop back into solo queue bright and early.

Honor Revamp

As part of the patch, Riot confirmed that the Honor system has been majorly revamped. Instead of players accumulating Honor over a season (unless penalized), it updates regularly based on recent game behavior.

This is designed to reduce the negative advantages that very well behaved, but more irregular players may have. The complete breakdown of everything that’s changing is as follows:

  • Honor Levels: Amount of games played without penalties > Dynamic evaluation based on recent positive behavior.
  • Rewards & Entitlements: Based on your current Honor
  • Honor Checkpoints & Seasonal Resets: Gone!
  • Demotion Warnings: Will notify you when your Honor is sliding to the previous level.
  • Honor Penalties: Game-based; The amount of matches you must play to lift the penalty is viewable in your profile the same way Ranked Restrictions are today.
  • Honor Tokens: Any remaining Honor 5 tokens in loot will be converted into 1050 Orange Essence at the start of patch 25.06.
  • Progression: Honor Orbs and Capsules have been replaced with Battle Pass XP drops.
  • Rewards: After 25.04, the first time you reach Honor 5, you will be permanently awarded the Three Honors Malzahar, Shen, and Akshan skins, alongside Grey Warwick and Medieval Twitch and their chromas.

Systems

Atakhan

  • Early Lane Trading: Pro play features more aggressive early lane trading, and champions simply have less health early anyway, so smaller amounts of damage represent greater bloodiness. Therefore we are increasing the impact of early-game PvP damage on Bloodiness Score to a greater degree.
    • Early PvP generates double the points, decreasing down to the normal amount over 14 minutes
    • Diminishing Kill Score: Functionally, so long as enough kills happen, the game feels bloody and lively. This means that the first few kills are more significant than subsequent ones.
    • The first few kills per game grant significantly more points, diminishing with each subsequent kill.
    • Tower Dives in particular are extremely high-tension moments, and, therefore tower dive kills grant multiplicatively more points.
    • Threshold Recallibration: Because these adjustments change point values significantly, we are adjusting the Voracious vs Ruinous threshold to try to better match these new expected values.

Clash Rewards

Since the amount of Clash tournaments this year is reduced by half, Riot is recalibrating the VP required for each tier of rewards. Check out the new VP requirements down below:

  • Random Icon: 100 VP (unchanged)
  • 2025 Clash Contender Title: 200 VP (unchanged)
