Cloud9 win LCS 2022 Summer: Recap, results, standings

LCS 2022 Summer

LCS 2022 Summer — and the LCS Championship — have wrapped up, and Cloud9 have shocked everyone to claim yet another title. They knocked off Spring champions Evil Geniuses and took down 100 Thieves twice in Chicago to book NA’s first seed to Worlds: here’s how it went down.

  • Cloud9 complete miracle turnaround to win LCS 2022 Summer
  • 100 Thieves, Evil Geniuses book spots at Worlds 2022 with top three finishes
  • Liquid miss out after falling short of Championship Weekend

LCS 2022 Spring saw the rise of rookie champions Evil Geniuses, who’ve gained international renown for their rookie talents Joseph ‘Jojopyun’ Joonpyun and Kyle ‘Danny’ Sakamaki. They’ll look to defend their Spring title in the playoffs, and lock themselves a place at the 2022 World Championships.

However Summer marked the rise of the hodge-podge group of old dogs in Cloud9. An unretired Nicolaj ‘Jensen’ Jensen saving the legendary squad from mediocrity, and a roleswapping Jesper ‘Zven’ Svenningsen getting his first title as a support at his old home headlined the Championship Weekend in Chicago.

While 100 Thieves managed to book themselves a rematch against Cloud9 thanks to a tight 3-2 victory over a weakened Evil Geniuses on Saturday, they didn’t even manage to steal a game on Sunday as the now five-time champions lifted yet another title.

Rookie AD carry Kim ‘Berserker’ Min-cheol was the star of the show — no less in Game 3 as his Sivir tore through the Thieves, assisted by Zven’s Lulu and Jensen’s Zilean. Now their sights are set on Worlds as a first seed for the first time since 2013.

LCS Summer 2022: Teams & players

10 teams took part LCS Summer 2022. While the offseason didn’t see too many drastic roster changes, many LCS teams have made roster changes mid-season in an effort to qualify for the 2022 World Championship, which will take place in cities across the US and Mexico later this year.

The most notable offseason change came from Cloud9, who role-swapped Ibrahim ‘Fudge’ Allami back into the top lane and brought back legacy mid laner Nicolaj ‘Jensen’ Jensen.

Since the start of the Summer Split, Golden Guardians have swapped out everyone but Eric ‘Licorice’ Ritchie, GG’s top laner, at least once. TSM have also had a revolving door roster with only Mingyi ‘Spica’ Lu and Huang ‘Maple’ Yi-Tang staying at the roster’s core through the split.

Golden Guardians taking Dignitas’ junger, Kim ‘River’ Dong-woo, forced Dignitas to start Lawrence ‘eXyu’ Lin-Xu. This change shortly followed Trevor ‘Spawn’ Kerr-Taylor getting swapped onto Dignitas’ LCS roster when Toàn ‘Neo’ Trần got sent to Academy.
