It’s been two years since Hogwarts Legacy was brought to Harry Potter fans around the world, and there has been mass speculation regarding possible DLC for the game. Here’s what we know about new content in the wizarding world.
Avalanche Software gave Harry Potter fans what they’d always wanted with Hogwarts Legacy – the chance to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and carve out their own adventure.
Packed full of magical creatures to find, spells to master, and a lot of iconic locations to explore, the game has tons of great content to pour over – but that hasn’t stopped fans from wondering about potential DLC.
Will Hogwarts Legacy have DLC?
While Hogwarts Legacy was reportedly slated to receive an expansion, DLC for the game is supposedly no longer in the works.
Initially, game director Alan Tew said at IGN Fan Fest in 2023, “We’ve been really heads down bringing [Hogwarts Legacy] to life, so at the moment there are no current plans for DLC.”
However, several months later, a report from Insider Gaming stated that “a Hogwarts Legacy Definitive Edition is in development.”
According to this exclusive, the edition would’ve included over 10 hours of content, featuring “a new story quest, side quests, activities, and outfits.”
This was corroborated by industry insider Jason Schreier, who reiterated that the game is in development during his February 26, 2025 appearance on the Kinda Funny Gamescast.
A March 2025 update from Bloomberg (via IGN) paints a different picture, though. Though WB Games planned on launching the paid expansion alongside the Definitive Edition this year, sources told Bloomberg the DLC has been canceled.
Apparently, the cancellation stemmed from concerns that “the amount of content was not substantial enough to justify the price being considered,” the publication explained.

What could the future of Hogwarts Legacy look like?
One of the main points of contention among fans is that Hogwarts Legacy doesn’t feature Quidditch. While Witches and Wizards can fly around on a broomstick, they can’t take part in the popular sport.
A Hogwarts Legacy DLC or even a sequel could add the fan-favorite sport to the game, which would make for some great side content outside of dungeon crawling and overworld exploration. One leaker even noted that Hogwarts Legacy’s map size was cut by nearly a quarter, with the Highlands and Swamp being removed.
The leaker revealed that both locations could be added as part of the game’s expansion or a continuation. Since WB has reportedly shelved the expansion, it’s possible this content won’t see the light of day until a sequel – if at all. WB developers have continued to support the interactive wizarding adventures in other ways, of course.
We’ve seen the arrival of Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, a standalone game that lets players dive into fan-favorite locations and interact with characters from the franchise out on the pitch. Pluse, a free update in June 2024 launched as a a token of appreciation from Avalanche Software to thank the fans.
The Hogwarts Legacy update in June 2024 included a new photo mode, skins for the game’s mounts, extra cosmetics, as well as the Haunted Hogsmeade quest which was only available to PlayStation users.

In addition, a free PC Modding Support Update arrived on January 30, 2025. The update allows players to mettle in a custom dungeon created by community members, ride a vacuum, dragon, or phoenix instead of a broom, and other wonderful additions.
Hogwarts Legacy 2
Regardless of the canned DLC plans, which WB Games never announced, we do know that a Hogwarts Legacy 2 has been confirmed back by WB Discovery’s Gunnar Wiedenfels, who said a successor to Hogwarts Legacy is one of their top priorities.
Wiedenfels revealed that the sequel won’t arrive for at least another couple of years, so players shouldn’t hold their breaths waiting for its release.
