Genshin Impact has been one of the most popular gacha games since its surprise launch in September 2020, retaining its strong player count for almost five years.
HoYoverse’s gacha game has been a massive success, paving the way for more titles, including Honkai Star Rail and Zenless Zone Zero. With an ever-expanding roster of characters to roll on the upcoming schedule of banners, exciting action-combat, and an open world to explore, there’s a lot of content to dive into.
For a look at how Genshin’s huge fanbase is shaping up in 2025, with a look back at its performance in previous months and years, we’ve got a rundown of its estimated player count below.
Genshin Impact player count
Genshin Impact had an average of over 10 million players in July, according to the data from ActivePlayer. This is an important downgrade from the over 14 million in the previous month.
For the past three years, the gacha title has consistently had well over 50 million players logging in daily, throughout 2023, 2024, and part of 2025. However, in the past months, the number has dropped significantly.
Genshin maintained over 60 million monthly players for the majority of 2024, only dropping below this slightly in the summertime. You can get a visual look back at its latest numbers in the graph below:

How many people play compared to its competitors?
In comparison to other gacha titles, Genshin has had a massive fall in its monthly and daily players. While Honkai Star Rail holds an average of 19 and 5.2 million players, respectively, Genshin Impact has only registered 11 and 2.1 million.
One of the biggest gacha games released in 2024 was Solo Leveling: Arise, based on the popular anime of the same name. However, Genshin is massively ahead of Arise regarding player count at the time of writing. Similarly, Girls’ Frontline: Exilium 2, according to SteamDB, has an average of 691 players in the past 30 days – though this data is in a slightly different format to ActivePlayer’s estimates.
The future of Genshin
Despite its big fall last year, Genshin Impact doesn’t show any signs of slowing down, with HoYoverse providing regular updates in the form of new regions to explore and story quests to complete. There’s also the ever-expanding character roster full of banner-exclusive and free fighters for players to use.
Additionally, with the abundance of real-life collabs and merch featuring the game’s popular characters, it’s clear that HoYoverse is truly committed when it comes to providing new content.
The version 5.7 update introduced two new characters: Skirk (Void Star) and Shenhe. Moreover, it added new challenge stages, Echo cosmetics for Raiden Shogun and Shenhe, and Spiral Abyss tweaks.
Meanwhile, the recently released 5.8 update added new banner characters, including Ineffa. Assuming the new content is well-received by the community, it’s likely that we’ll see the gacha title retain its numbers or even draw in more players to jump in.
That’s all we know about Genshin Impact’s player count in August 2025. For more game player count numbers, we’ve got details for Battlefield 4, World of Warcraft, Valorant, and Destiny 2.
