Finding some of the wildlife endemic to Monster Hunter Wilds’ various biomes can be difficult, especially when they blend into their environment as well as Dapperwings do.
These small bird-like creatures are one of many you’ll need to capture for research side missions, with this task set for you by researcher Samin, located in the Windward Plains Base Camp, after completing chapter 4-1 and unlocking High Rank.
To help simplify your hunt for the colourful little critters, find everything you need to know below.
Dapperwing location in Monster Hunter Wilds
Dapperwings can be found throughout the Scarlet Forest, but to save you from traipsing around the map, one specific location we found to spawn them consistently is in Sector 12 ruins.
Either by fast travelling to the nearest pop-up camp or by having your Seikret auto-path to the location, head to Sector 12 and to the specific location marked on the map below.

You’ll know if you’ve arrived at the correct location if you find a small outcropping of dilapidated man-made buildings with several Dapperwings perched on the walls. See the image below outlining precisely what it is you’re looking for.

How to catch Dapperwings
The process of capturing a Dapperwing, like most small creatures in Monster Hunter Wilds, is simple:
- Equip your Capture Net to the active slot of your quick-use menu.
- Aim the net at a Dapperwing using LT or Right-Click.
- Fire the Capture Net using RT or F.

You’ll know the Capture Net is in range of the desired target when the Net’s HUD turns orange. This means the creature targeted will be automatically captured and processed for Guild Points. For Samin’s Research, you only need to capture one Dapperwing but you’ll get Guild Points for however many you capture.
