Shroud heaps praise on RuneScape Dragonwilds but has one big problem with it

Shroud played RuneScape Dragonwilds, Jagex’s new survival co-op game, on April 15, sharing his initial impressions of the Early Access title after putting in four hours of playtime.

Dragonwilds was shadow-dropped on Steam on April 15 during the developer’s deep-dive Twitch stream, peaking at 41,270 concurrent players within the first 24 hours of release, Shroud being one of them.

At around the halfway mark of his nine-hour stream of the game, the streamer took a moment to share his thoughts on the game after his first few hours exploring the land of Ashenfall.

Shroud’s first impressions of RuneScape Dragonwilds

“Apparently they said there’s anywhere from 15-25 hours of content, depending on your pace. That’s pretty good for a $30 game,” he said, in response to being asked by someone else on stream what they thought so far.

“It hasn’t necessarily impressed me, but it’s not what you usually see. When you usually play an Early Access survival game, you’re like ‘Wow, this game is dogsh*t, I need to wait six years until it’s good,'” he continued, adding, “This game is not like that. This game already out the rip is fine. It’s only going to get better. It’s just got a solid foundation.”

While mostly positive, Shroud did point to his experiencing bad technical performance as a negative. “It does run like sh*t though,” he said.

Jagex is currently targeting 2026 for a full release of Dragonwilds and has already provided a substantial roadmap for future content, including new skills and quests as well as ongoing improvements to combat, performance, and difficulty.

As of writing, players have access to seven skills, all of which can be levelled to the current cap of 49. To learn more about each skill, how to level them, and what they unlock, check out our guide and, if you haven’t already, our interview with Dragonwilds’ Executive Producer.
