An Oblivion Remastered player managed to get out of the map and stumbled across a number of familiar locations, including Hammerfell, to which Elder Scrolls 6 is heavily rumored to take place.
Since it was shadowdropped on April 22, Oblivion Remastered has already become one of 2025’s most successful games. Within just a week of its release, over 4 million players have returned to Cyrodiil, with many praising it as one of the best remasters ever made.
But while the world of Oblivion is huge, fans have noticed other landmarks outside the map’s boundaries, including Skyrim’s Throat of the World. So, one player decided to investigate further and found a lot more than they were expecting.
Oblivion Remastered player escapes map & finds Hammerfell
A Reddit user shared a number of posts outlining their journey, after realizing that you can leave the map completely if you jump over an invisible barrier near Kvatch. This took them into the region of Valenwood, which appears in Elder Scrolls Online and is home to the Wood Elves, which was actually fully explorable.
“I explored a bit and was surprised to find basically the whole landmass of the map was there, even if not detailed ofc,” said the OP.
The Summerset Isles, another ESO area, could also be seen on the horizon, although they fell through the map before they could set foot on the island.
Perhaps most interestingly, the player was also able to make it towards Cyrodiil’s northern border and found the neighboring region of Hammerfell. Those old enough to play Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall in 1996 have already visited this location, but it’s possible that we’ll be returning there in the not-too-distant future.
Although not officially confirmed, Hammerfell has been heavily rumored to be the setting of The Elder Scrolls 6, based on the mountains seen in the announcement trailer. This was backed up when a Reddit user stumbled across an alleged Bethesda employee’s Pinterest page, which contained plenty of items related to the region.
Although the area was fairly barren with no real landmarks, the user was still able to explore. They shared images of grassy valleys and snowy mountains, with the Throat of the World visible in the background.
They even tried to find the exact coastline from that 2018 teaser trailer, but they, again, fell through the map before making it that far.
Although this all makes sense geographically, based on what we know about the layout of Tamriel, it’s surprising just how much extra land there is outside the playable area in Oblivion Remastered.
There could be even more to see as well, as the OP mentioned that “the landmass stretches way beyond render-distance, so who knows how far it goes… Likely there is nothing here, but I’m intrigued nonetheless.”
Although The Elder Scrolls 6 is likely not releasing for many years, this is a small taste of what the long-awaited sequel could look like when it finally arrives.
