Oblivion remaster images leak ahead of rumored April shadow drop

imperial city in oblivion

An imminent announcement of the long-rumored Oblivion remaster is looking likelier than ever after screenshots direct from the developer’s website were discovered in a major leak.

While neither series creator, Bethesda, nor Virtuos Games, the studio thought to be behind the remaster as a third-party contractor, have ever officially confirmed that a return to Cyrodiil is on the cards, numerous leaks from reliable insiders have explicitly stated the project was in development and that it was coming soon.

On April 15, Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb claimed to have heard from sources that Oblivion, in all its reimagined glory, would be dropping sometime the week beginning April 21, 2025. That, combined with the discovery of screenshots on Virtuos’ website – which have since been removed from public view – has added just more fuel to an already red-hot fire.

Spotted on April 15 by one eagle-eyed fan, screenshots for a more modern-looking Oblivion were subsequently shared on the game’s subreddit.

Explaining how they were able to access portions of Virtuos’ WordPress backend, the user said, “I checked the website, inspected a random image element in hope I could find something. Turns out they’re using WordPress and the uploads-folder contains these images. Didn’t really expect to find this though!”

The rumors of an Oblivion remaster started circulating way back in 2023.

The question that new rests on fans’ lips, of course, is when to expect an official announcement or, for that matter, when the remaster will be available. No word on that yet, but considering the increased pace at which information regarding Oblivion’s re-release has started to circulate the internet, the wait likely won’t be long.
