Nintendo has indefinitely postponed Switch 2 preorders in Canada in an effort to align availability with the United States.
More details about the Switch 2 were revealed on April 2, 2025, including the launch date, price, and when preorders would go live for fans to secure their console.
Preorders in the United States were set to launch on Wednesday, April 9, but Nintendo decided to postpone them indefinitely in order to asses the impact of new import tariffs created by President Trump.
Now, Nintendo has announced that they’ve postponed preorders in Canada as well in an effort to align with US availability.
Nintendo postpones Canada Switch 2 preorders
Nintendo of Canada shared the news with MobileSyrup and revealed the reasoning behind postponing preorders in Canada.
“Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not start on April 9, 2025, in order to align with the timing of pre-orders to be determined in the U.S.,” said a spokesperson for Nintendo of Canada.
Much like the US preorder delay, Nintendo of Canada has confirmed that the June 5, 2025 launch date for the Switch 2 has not been affected by this change.
Nintendo has continued to share updates about the Switch 2 hardware since the April 2 Direct. On April 7, the company revealed that the Joy-Con 2s will not use hall effect joysticks to fix the stick drift issues that plagued the original console’s controllers.
They’ve also revealed that the Switch 2 game cartridges will continue to taste bad as a way to prevent young children from accidentally swallowing them.
As for the internal specs, however, we’ll have to wait for Nintendo to reveal more about the next-gen hybrid console. Nvidia has shared that it will use DLSS and Ray Tracing to boost performance, essentially making the Switch 2 rival that of a high-end graphics card.
