Nintendo adds game-changing Switch feature that makes digital game sharing easier

Nintendo Switch Virtual Game Card feature

Nintendo has just announced a massive new Switch feature that lets users share their games with family members more easily than ever.

Ever since the Switch launched back in 2017, Nintendo’s console has lacked an easy way to share games with your family members.

Some have found workarounds for it, like making your account the primary on another person’s switch, but it’s left many people confused over the years.

During the Thursday, March 27 Nintendo Direct, the company finally announced a new way to make It easier than ever to share games with a family member.

Nintendo reveals virtual game cards and family sharing features

The feature will be released in a system update before the end of April 2025 and will be available on both the Switch and the Switch 2.

With the release, digital games will turn into “virtual game cards” that allow you to eject the title from one console to play on another.

“Now you can play games on a second system whenever and wherever you want. Just as if you inserted a physical game card,” they said.

Nintendo also noted that local communication is required with the system that you’re sharing games with, but only to set it up for the first time. After that, you simply need an internet connection to load or eject games.

You can also lend out games with people in your family group for up to 14 days, after which they will be returned to your console. Luckily, Nintendo made it clear that save data will not be removed when you lose access to the game.
