Monster Hunter Wilds is out, and players from around the world are diving into the Forbidden Lands. However, many of those playing on PC have left negative reviews on Steam, due to a glaring issue with performance.
Despite receiving glowing reviews from critics, including our review on PS5, Monster Hunter Wilds’ PC release has proven divisive. Although it hit over 1 million players on launch day and broke playercount records, Capcom’s beast-slaying title is sitting with a “Mixed” reviews rating on Steam.
As of February 28, the Monster Hunter Wilds Steam store page has over 8,000 negative reviews, balanced by just over 5,000 positive ones. While this isn’t reflective of the overall quality of the story or gameplay, PC players are having a tough time enjoying their time in the Forbidden Lands due to optimization, or lack thereof.
Monster Hunter Wilds PC players “poor” optimisation
Performance concerns are nothing new for Monster Hunter Wilds fans. In September, PC players raised concerns after Capcom revealed the recommended hardware requirements needed to run Wilds at 1080p, 60 frames per second.
While the beta and subsequent benchmark test helped PC players stress-test their rigs, for many, the current release is still not pleasant at all.
“This game is absolutely amazing – but has the worst optimisation I’ve ever seen,” wrote one disappointed player, who summed up the general sentiment.
“I understand that new games are becoming more demanding and people are expected to upgrade, but this is absurd…I am by no means saying the game is bad, but in its current state, you should probably consider waiting for a more stable release.”

Negative reviews have also poured in from players who have hardware that is above the recommended settings. “This game brings my 4070 Ti Super to its knees, when I’m able to run so many better looking titles at 4k + 120fps,” wrote one player.
Monster Hunter Wilds isn’t the first PC Monster Hunter game to receive optimisation complaints at launch. When Monster Hunter World was released back in 2018, PC players review-bombed the game following optimisation issues. Capcom has since fixed this issue, and the game now has 291,838 Very Positive reviews.
Capcom has yet to reveal a statement on the PC performance issues, but until then, try using our best PC FPS settings to see if that alleviates any issues.
