Monster Hunter Wilds free DLC will include legendary monster not seen for seven years

The Monster Hunter Wilds Showcase has revealed the return of a legendary beast, which hasn’t been in the series since 2017.

On March 25, Capcom released a new trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds’ first title update. The free DLC goes live on April 3 and will add Mizutsune, Arch-Tempered Rey Dau, and a large gathering hub for Hunters to relax together.

There’s even a bunch of new Challenge and Arena Quests that players can complete for global rankings and rewards. However, the biggest reveal wasn’t any of the above – instead, Hunters need to be prepared for the Summer update when a fan-favorite foe makes its long-awaited return.

Lagiacrus returns in Monster Hunter Wilds

It’s been seven years since Lagiacrus made a splash in a mainline Monster Hunter game. The so-called Lord of the Seas was originally meant to return in Monster Hunter World, but animation issues led to him being cut from the toothy terror team.

Despite this, early footage was uncovered and showed just how janky the aquatic monster was. Let’s put it this way: the poor leviathan was likelier to snap its own neck rather than deliver a fatal blow.

Well, fast forward to March 25, and Capcom has finally dredged Lagiacrus up from the watery depths below, given its blue scales an HD lick of paint, and hurled it into the Forbidden Lands. Yes, after seven long years, Lagiacrus is finally coming home with the arrival of Monster Hunter Wilds’ Summer update.

While Capcom has yet to show off its Thunder-based attacks, we did get a brief clip of Lagiacrus sinking its sharp claws into its prey. With no underwater combat present in Wilds, Lagi will likely use the interconnected waterways of Scarlet Forest to swim between zones, much like Uth Duna

Despite excelling at aquatic hunting, Lagiacrus can still deliver a shocking surprise on land. In fact, one of its most lethal attacks sees it coil up before unleashing a devastating burst of Thunder energy. This move can instantly kill any Hunter that happens to get caught in its way, while its claw swipes and Plesioth-style hip checks can send players reeling back to base camp.

Then there are the weapons themselves, which, like Lagiacrus, will come packed with a shocking elemental punch. With the arrival of the Sea Lord, players will now have even more Thunder elemental weapons outside of Rey Dau and Fulgur Anjanath. So, expect the best armor sets and weapons tier list to change with the arrival of this legendary beast.
