A new year means new features for every game mode in MLB The Show 25, and San Diego Studio unveiled what fans can expect from this title.

MLB The Show 25 officially launches on Tuesday, March 18, 2025. This year’s installment features Paul Skenes, Elly De La Cruz and Gunnar Henderson as cover athletes. On top of that, Roger Clemons and Manny Ramirez are coming to the series as new legends.

As for gameplay innovations, Ambush hitting rewards players for guessing where a pitch will be, G.O.A.T difficulty is a new difficulty more challenging than Legend, infielders react differently to ground balls based on their attributes and there’s a new meter to rob home runs.

Road to the Show, Franchise mode, and Diamond Dynasty all have new features, too. So far we only know about RTTS and Franchise, but those two modes have a lot to get into.

MLB The Show 25 overhauls the progressions system, allowing you to upgrade your player as you best see fit on the journey to 99 overall. By playing games, you earn tokens to upgrade any specific attribute or a group of attributes.

For example, upgrading Power from 42 to 43 costs three tokens total, and the price varies depending on the attribute’s level.

Completing key moment challenges unlocks Perks that can be permanently equipped and upgraded with tokens.

You can also earn equipment from completing challenges, and they can be equipped to improve Perks further.

For the first time in MLB The Show history, this title allows you to start your career in high school for your senior year. After leading your school to a state championship, you can either elect to go to the pros and play minor league baseball or play for one of eight college programs to improve your draft stock.

New quick-time events in RTTS test your ability to react fast and put you in the shoes of a professional baseball player with a new first-person fielding camera.

For example, players now have the option to use a swim move to avoid the tag while trying to slide into a base.

This year, San Diego Studio focused on overhauling the offseason experience in Franchise mode. A new high-risk, high-reward free agency system allows you to choose your top three targets every week for 16 weeks and negotiate potential deals with them.

Decisions have consequences. For example, if you lowball them on a contract, they will be less interested in signing.

You can allocate resources each week to make a free agent more interested in you. Their interests are based on positional fit, contract length, annual salary and team quality.

It’s important not to waste time on free agents you won’t get because you will miss out on other targets.

Trades have also been overhauled to improve player evaluation logic, better trades, and more realistic contract negotiations and values. In addition, the menus have been enhanced to include game storylines, league news, and minor league reports to keep up to date with how your prospects are performing.
