Marvel Rivals’ 1.5 Season has finally arrived, bringing everyone’s favorite heartthrob, Johnny Storm into the battle. However, to master the Human Torch, you’ll need to perfect his build and fully understand how to play him.
From a brand new map, exciting skins, tons of buffs and nerfs, and of course two new characters, Marvel Rivals’ 1.5 season is shaping up to be stellar. One such new character is Human Torch, another member of the Fantastic Four, which now hosts The Thing, Invisible Woman, and Mister Fantastic thanks to the update.
However, to master the latest firey entry into the game, you’ll need to fully understand how he works, his abilities, and of course, the best characters to pair with him.
Human Torch stats in Marvel Rivals

- Class: Duelist
- Health: 250
- Movement: 6m/s
- Movement Mode: Flight
The Human Torch isn’t exactly the strongest Duelist in Marvel Rivals, or the quickest, with the likes of Wolverine having a movement of 7m/s and a health of 350. However, this is primarily due to the fact that Johnny Storm flies, like Iron Man, who has the same stats.
So, while he’s not as resistant or fast, his mobility is a huge asset for the Human Torch. Once combined with his powerful abilities, you’d be a fool to underestimate him.
March 13 meta changes
Human Torch arrived as a dominant hero. He’s really overpowered and is sitting right at the top of the current meta. The March 13 update has only made him stronger, with buffs to multiple abilities.
The damage of Fire Tornado has increased from 100 to 120. The speed of the Fire Cluster projectiles has increased from 120m/s to 150m/s, and the count has also gone up from 12 to 14. Finally, the Energy Cost of his ultimate has increased from 3,400 to 4,000, but the activation’s waves now deal 80 damage instead of 70.
You can find the full list of adjustments for Human Torch below:
- The energy cost of Supernova (ultimate ability) has increased from 3400 to 4000. Activation wave damage has increased from 70 to 80. Flame Tornado damage has increased from 100 per/s to 120 per/s.
- Fire Cluster’s projectile speed has increased from 120m/s to 150m/s, and it’s projectile count from 12 to 14.
Weapons
The Human Torch’s primary weapon is his Fire Cluster, a splittable fireball that can be fired from range and acts as a burst projectile. The weapon has multiple charges and holds a pretty impressive speed, though it does have a damage falloff to consider.
His Fire Cluster stats can be found below:
Weapon Type | Burst Projectile |
Charges | 6 |
Charge Speed | 0.33s per use |
Fire Rate | 0.6s per round |
Projectile Speed | 120m/s |
Shot Damage | 7 per round |
Damage Falloff | Begins at 15m decreasing to 60% at 40m |
Crosshair Spread Radius (10m) | 0.33m |
Critical Hit | Yes |

Abilities
Combined with his Fire Cluster weapon, Johnny Storm has some extremely powerful abilities, so much so that players are calling some overpowered.
His abilities are (of course) fire-based and can stun enemies, deal AoE damage, create fire tornadoes and so much more.

How to play Human Torch in Marvel Rivals
While Human Torch doesn’t exactly thrive with his health or movement speed, his mobility is his greatest asset. You’ll need to utilize his flight and ranged attacks at every possible opportunity, while still keeping an eye out for other ranged fighters, who are sure to snipe the blazing ball of light out of the sky whenever they can.
The best way to play Human Torch is like you would Iron Man. Keep to the skies, keep yourself away from anyone who can shoot you down, and focus on taking down any enemy you choose. Stay on the outskirts of combat thanks to your 120m/s projectile speed and tackle the competition from afar.

Then, if there’s a trickier hero, like a high-health vanguard, use your Blazing Blast to deal incredible damage to them while your other allies take them down from close by.
One element you shouldn’t forget is your Pyro-Prison. This is a fantastic control ability and pairs perfectly with either Groot or Flaming Meteor, to get you closer to the enemy you want to trap. That is if you don’t kill them with the latter.
Best Team Comp
Johhny Storm is only as good as the heroes you pair him with, and we suggest choosing the following characters:
- Storm
- Invisible Woman
- Doctor Strange
Storm
Storm is a pretty obvious pick here considering how well her team-up pairs with Johnny’s kit, with the two of them having enough damage together to tear through healer ults. If the enemy team doesn’t have a reliable hitscanner and can’t shoot you and Storm out of the sky, you’ll dominate lobbies.
Check out our Storm guide for more details on the character.
Invisible Woman

Though Invisible Woman may struggle to heal you if her aim isn’t on point, a good player can use her CC to push enemies into your fire AoEs. Additionally, flying heroes pair naturally well with her ult seeing as it can be almost impossible to guess where the Human Torch is exactly if he’s in it.
Even if the enemy is able to get the right one-shot combo prepared, you won’t die to it.
Check out our Invisible Woman guide for more details on the character.
Doctor Strange
Doctor Strange’s ability to bind people in place for a few seconds is a perfect pairing with the Human Torch. A good ult from your tank followed by a few AoE abilities and you’ll be able to shred through the enemy team in no time.
Check out our Doctor Strange guide for more details on the character.
Best counters
If you’re going up against Human Torch in Marvel Rivals, then you’ll want to choose one of the following counters:
- The Punisher
- Hawkeye
- Hela
The Punisher

The Punisher is a fantastic counter for Human Torch thanks to his ranged weapon, which can essentially pick Johnny out of the sky and take him down without much trouble. Combine this with his Calling Turret and Johnny Storm’s 250 health will be gone in seconds. Just keep moving and try to make it so Human Torch doesn’t see you, but you see him. His attacks are just as powerful as yours.
Check out our The Punisher guide for more details on the character.
Hawkeye
For the same reason as The Punisher, Hawkeye excels against Human Torch thanks to his deadly ranged attacks. Clint’s Archer’s Focus deals up to 70 damage by aiming for just under a second. If you get a crit on this, Johnny will be a one-shot. Especially if you have Black Widow with you and activate the Supersensory Vision Team-Up.
Check out our Hawkeye guide for more details on the character.
Hela

Hela’s attacks are hitscan which is exactly what you need to combat Human Torch. Her attacks are deadly, despite any current nerfs, and typically she’ll be able to take down Johnny Storm in two to three hits if you’re careful and tactical with her abilities.
Check out our Hela guide for more details on the character.
