Monster Hunter Wilds lets you use layered armor to transmog your gear, so you don’t have to run around looking like a total disaster – rocking Quematrice boots on one end and a bug hat on the other.
Sure, there’s a certain charm in looking like a fashion catastrophe while living out your power fantasies – I respect that. But when you actually want to look cool, yet you’re stuck wearing whatever mismatched armor Gemma just threw together, don’t worry – MHW has you covered.
In this guide, I’ll walk you through how to transmog your gear so you can hunt in style while taking down those terrifying beasts.
How to transmog
To transmog, you must head inside your tent, select the Appearance Menu, and edit Equipment Appearance. Here, you’ll see the Monster Hunter Wilds layered armor option.
Here’s a step-by-step breakdown of how to use layered armor:
- Enter a tent either at base or inside a pop-up camp.
- Switch to the tab with the head icon – the Appearance Menu.
- Here, select Equipment Appearance.
- Select the icon for the piece of armor you want to transmog.
- Select the cyan icon for the layered armor you want to display on your character.
As with all games, transmogrifying armor doesn’t affect its base stats – only its appearance. Not all armor sets are available as layered armor. The selection is limited to DLC-exclusive outfits and armor sets you’ve forged in its entirety. This means you’ll only get the Lala Barina outfit available in the Layered Armor section once you craft the helm, chest piece, braces, coil, and greaves.
How to dye armor

Layered armor can be dyed in Monster Hunter Wilds. To do this, click on the two color squares on the right side of the Equipment Appearance menu.
This opens up a color selection tool where you can choose the perfect hue for your armor. Most regular armor sets crafted by Gemma can’t be dyed, but your Underclothes can.
That’s everything you need to know about Transmog, but while you’re still inside your tent, you might want to learn how to change your appearance and how to hide your helmet.
