Monster Hunter Wilds’ Death Stench armor set is a must for every player who loves taking down their monolithic foes in style. However, you’ll need to get a hidden item to unlock it, which can be rather tricky to find.
Death Stench armor returns in Monster Hunter Wilds, giving players the chance to get their hands on this spooky-looking gear. Unlike other equipment in the game, Death Stench isn’t unlocked by just hunting through Wilds’ monster roster.
Instead, there are a few steps you’ll need to complete before you can add it to your collection. So, whether you’re a fashion hunter looking to use it as Layered armor or just want to see what skills it has, then here’s how you can get Death Stench armor in MH Wilds.
How to get Death Stench armor in MH Wilds
To get Death Stench armor in Monster Hunter Wilds, you’ll need to get Sinister Cloth. This item is obtained from Murtabak in the Windward plains. Simply speak to Murtabak or Nata at any base camp, select the Material Retrieval feature, and choose any item you wish Murtabak to retrieve.
Once you’ve done this, Murtabak will occasionally find Sinister Cloth as a bonus item reward. To speed up this process, use your BBQ and choose to rest for a day, and check back in with Murtabak to see if he’s gotten any Sinister Cloth.
Sinister Cloth can also be obtained from the Item Trade feature, which allows you to trade with the game’s NPCs. The two you want to focus on here are Gawdygog and Kilama. Gawdygog will give you Sinister Cloth in exchange for Ancient Wyvern Coins, while Kilama sometimes has Sinister Cloth that can be traded for Great Windward Aloe.

How to get Ancient Wyvern Coins
Ancient Wyvern Coins can be obtained from Curioshell Crabs after you kill or capture them with your net. While you can find them in the Windward Plains, the easiest place to farm them is the underground cavern in Area 8 of the Scarlet Forest.
The cave can be accessed by walking underneath the waterfall, and you’ll see the Curioshell Crab on the path next to the fishing Wudwud. It’s easy to spot as Curioshell Crabs have a distinct golden color, but they do move quickly, so be ready with your net or weapon.
The last place you can get Curioshell Crabs is from the underground section of Area 14 in the Windward Plains. Travel between all these locations to quickly farm a bounty of Ancient Wyvern Coins.
How to get Great Windward Aloe

Great Windward Aloe is dropped by the Giant Windward Succulent, which is found in the Windward Plains during the Great Windward Aloe Emergence. Once this event occurs, you’ll get an in-game notification telling you that the Great Windward Aloe Emergence is taking place.
Open your map and navigate over to the Filter Icons section to select the Great Windward Succulent and set a waypoint. Your Seikret will then automatically begin running over to the plant, and you’ll be able to harvest it.
Death Stench armor material cost & skills

Death Stench armor comes with the following armor set skills:
- Resentment (level 5): Increases attack by +25 when you have recoverable damage.
- Ambush (level 3): Temporarily increases damage by +15% to large monsters with a successful Sneak Attack.
- Stun Resistance (level 2): Reduces the duration of stun by 60%.
- Intimidator: Highly discourages monsters from engaging you even if you’ve been spotted.
The Death Stench armor set is not a meta set by any means, as it lacks any real DPS skills, but having Ambush and Intimidator does make it a fun sneak attack set. We recommend using this as a layered armor set instead of using it over other more powerful DPS and utility-focused armor pieces.
