How to fix FragPunk audio not working & best sound settings

FragPunk has already garnered plenty of players in its chaotic rule-breaking hero shooter adventure, but some players are struggling to master its audio.

When it comes to first person shooters like FragPunk, audio is vital. After all, you need to hear the enemy, know when to engage your abilities, track your allies, and of course listen out for any incoming dangers from fellow Lancers.

How to fix Fragpunk no audio bug

Reset to default settings

The first step you’ll want to try is to head into your game’s settings and reset all the audio settings back to default. With any luck, this will kickstart the sound into working again.

To reset your audio settings back to default, follow the below steps:

1. Once in the game, select the cog on the bottom right.
2. Navigate to Audio.
3. Select D to reset.

Once you’ve done this, restart your game and the audio should work again.

Disable Exclusive Mode

To do this, follow these steps:

1. On your PC, right-click the speaker image on your taskbar.
2. Select Sound Settings.

4. Right click your speaker or headphones and click properties.
5. Head to Advanced.
6. Uncheck Give exclusive mode applications priority and select Apply.

Verify game files

If the above hasn’t worked, then there could be an issue with your game’s files. In this case, you need to verify them through Steam. This won’t make you reinstall the game, instead it’ll search for any issues in your game’s files and offer to fix them.

To do so, follow the steps below:

1. Open Steam and head to your Library.
2. Find FragPunk.
3. Right click and select Properties.
4. Head to Installed Files and click verify integrity of game files.

Run game as Administrator

If Steam’s found no issues with your game, then the next step is to run FragPunk as an Administrator. This has been reported as a fix by players on Reddit.

To do this, you’ll need to simply head to your FragPunk shortcut on your desktop, right click the game and select ‘Run as Administrator‘, once you do, it’ll load up the game and likely fix your sound issues.

Then, we’ve made the choice to switch on Character Voice Simplification, which serves to remove all non-combat related voice overs. This will help you only hear important sounds, rather than Axon talking about standing still for the tenth time.

Lastly, voice chat is entirely your choice, but we’ve opted to keep your mic down, and enable push to talk, so you can call out when required, but keep quiet for the rest of the game, keeping yours and your team’s focus engaged.

How to improve audio

If you’re struggling with your audio in FragPunk despite using the above settings, you’ll need to improve your sound.

For this, we recommend investing in a good headset. These don’t usually cost the world, and can let you hear footsteps better, especially if they’re good quality. We recommend sticking in the $50-$60 price range, unless you really want to splash out.

If you’ve got a great headset, then the next step is to minimise your surrounding noise. If you’ve got music playing at the same time, turn it off, if you’re by a busy street, close the window, and if you have a group of people nearby, kindly ask them to keep it down. You need to hear where the enemy is before they know where you are, and a quiet environment is key for this.

Lastly, keep an ear out for audio clues. This will come with practice, but once you’ve mastered the map, listen out for footsteps and determine whether they’re getting louder or quieter or whether they’re above or below you. Once you’ve mastered this and have the best audio settings, you’ll have it mastered.
