You’re going to be doing a lot of bug-catching in Monster Hunter Wilds, so you might as well get comfy with the Net.
After you’ve spent a few hours slaying terrifying monsters, MHW decides it’s time for a little detour. You can’t just keep hunting beasts forever – sometimes, you need to wander through the desert and catch something tiny, like a Tracktail Lizard.
Dareel, a guild member busy doing an ecological survey of the Plains, needs you to grab a Tracktail Lizard sample for him. He conveniently hands you the side quest Dareel’s Research Report. The problem is you’ve never even seen this critter before.
Tracktail Lizard location
Tracktail Lizards can be found in the oasis of the Plains, just north of the campsite. You can check their location on the map below.
You’ll learn that Tracktail Lizards live in oases by speaking to Dareel again. He’ll explain that these creatures need water, so they can always be found near an oasis. Conveniently, there’s one close to him.
Set a waypoint, mount your Sekiret, and head there. Once you arrive, look for a pair of Tracktail Lizards in the northeast corner of the oasis.
They are highly sensitive to sudden movements, so approach as slowly as possible and have your net ready. Just aim, shoot, and catch them – then report back to Dareel.
As a reward for completing Dareel’s Research Report, you get 10 Honey, 50 Guild Points, and some Palico EXP.
How to catch critters

If you’ve never caught critters before, here’s a step-by-step guide on how it works:
- Open up the Essential Items wheel.
- Select the Capture Net.
- Press the aim button, aim slightly above the critter, and then shoot.
If you successfully catch the critter, a notification will appear on the right side of the screen.
That’s everything you need to know about catching the Tracktail Lizard in Monster Hunter Wilds. Now that you’re back on the campsite, why not learn how to hide your helmet or transmog your armor?
