Split Fiction is the newest game from the talented Hazelight Studios, the team behind It Takes Two, but just how long is this follow-up in comparison and how many chapters will you need to complete?
Four years after Game of the Year winner It Takes Two, Hazelight is back with another absolute gem. Split Fiction earned a perfect score from us at Dexerto thanks to its endless creativity and bountiful innovation, but just how big is the game from start to finish?
With dozens of unique gameplay features and a wide range of shockingly diverse chapters to get through, not to mention all the Side Stories, Benches, and other Easter eggs to track down, there’s a great deal here to sink your teeth into. So, here’s how big Split Fiction is, especially compared to Hazelight’s previous work.
Split Fiction time to beat: Main story & 100% completion
Our playthrough of Split Fiction took us 12 hours to complete. Along the way, we stopped to smell the roses plenty of times, completing every single Side Story and finding all the hidden Benches.
If you’re aiming to 100% complete Split Fiction, then you’re looking at around 16 hours, including exploration, Side Stories, and locating all the easter eggs.
The game has eight chapters all up, with a total of 85 levels across them – including the Side Stories. Some chapters are certainly longer than others, but given how rapidly the game changes pace, genre, and even graphical style, you’ll be kept on your toes all the way through.

Most importantly, while Side Stories add a bit of time to the overall game’s length, calling them Side Stories doesn’t do it justice. These are genuinely excellent levels well worth every moment of your time. If you come across one, do yourself a favor and jump in. Do not skip anything in Split Fiction.

Split Fiction length compared to It Takes Two
Split Fiction is around the same length as It Takes Two. If you made it through Hazelight’s last game without an issue, you’ll be right at home here as well. It’ll take roughly the same amount of time for you and a friend or partner to see and do everything on offer.

Just to compare it to Hazelight’s earlier games, below is a quick look at how long they all took to complete:
- It Takes Two: 12-14 hours
- A Way Out: 6 hours
- Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons: 3-4 hours
So while Split Fiction is certainly longer than the studio’s first two games, it’s right in line with It Takes Two, their most popular hit.
