Supergiant Games is hard at work on Hades 2, a sequel to their critically acclaimed roguelike. Here’s everything we know about the upcoming release.
Hades was one of the breakout successes of 2020, with the inventive roguelike defying all the odds to become one of the year’s best games, scooping numerous awards in the process.
Fans have been clamoring for a sequel ever since, and they got their wish as Hades 2 was finally announced at The Game Awards 2022, in one of the biggest surprises of the show.
Now three years on, the game is fast approaching and we’ve piled up dozens of hours in the early access stages. We’ve put together everything we know about Hades 2 so far, including when players will be able to get their hands on the full version.
Is there a Hades 2 release date?
There is currently no final release date for Hades 2. All we know is that the 1.0 version is set to launch at some stage in 2025. However, the game has been out in early access since May 2024, at least on PC.
Hades 2’s technical test first started on April 17, 2024 with a select group of Steam users. From there, it was off to the races, with regular Early Access updates polishing the experience and adding new content to the mix.
Hades 2 platforms
Hades 2 first made its debut in Early Access exclusively on PC.
For the full release, Hades 2’s 1.0 build will debut first on PC alongside the original Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch 2.
Fear not, however; the game is still set to release across other platforms, including PlayStation and Xbox, but there’s currently no telling when that might be.
Hades 2 story

Hades 2 places us into the godly shoes of Melinoe, Princess of the Underworld, and the sister of original protagonist Zagreus. Where the first game followed her brother trying to escape the underworld, the sequel sees Melinoe looking to defeat Chronos – the Titan of Time.
Chronus has captured Hades, and players will be forced to fight their way through level after level in an effort to free their father from his clutches.
Hades 2 gameplay
Hades is once again an action-packed roguelike that builds on the gameplay that made the first title so successful. Players must guide Melinoe through an ever-changing series of dungeons, where death means starting over from scratch.
She won’t be alone, however, as the Gods of Olympus will be on hand to provide boons granting powerful abilities and buffs. Apollo has been confirmed to return, and a host of new characters will also feature to help Melinoe on her journey.
The princess has a host of new weapons at her disposal, including a magical staff to ward off enemies with powerful spells, with even more to unlock as the game unfolds.
