Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is an upcoming open-world RPG that will star Jon Snow as a main character among other fan-favorites from the popular show, with a limited-time Early Access release in March.
Netmarble, the South Korean studio behind one of our best games of 2024, Solo Leveling: Arise, is no stranger to turning major franchises into successful games. They announced their next big project is a collaboration with Game of Thrones, set in the iconic world of Westeros.
Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming GoT RPG game, Kingsroad.
Release date
Game of Thrones: Kingsroad will be released in Early Access via Steam on March 26, 2025. The official launch date for the full release hasn’t been announced yet.
The developers stated, “We expect a minimum Early Access period of 4 weeks or longer.” After this, the game will be unavailable to play until it is fully released on all platforms.
The developers stated in November 18 that it will launch in Western markets before expanding to other regions. Executive producer Jang Hyun-i spoke with Korea JoongAng Daily, and stated that this is because “Asian gamers tend to consume content faster.”
He added: “It should give comparatively slower Western players a decent head start, allowing them to finish the title before too many competitors across the globe have plowed through it and spoiled the material.”
How to get Early Access on Steam and PC
To play Game of Thrones: Kingsroad in Early Access, you will need to purchase one of the three Founder’s Packs available on Steam, which have been available to buy since March 21.
Each pack grants Early Access to the game starting March 26, offering different tiered benefits:
Steam Founder’s Pack | Price | Contents |
---|---|---|
Standard Pack | $24.99 | Early Access, Northern Outfit, Jon Snow emoji pack, 350 Iron Bank Marks |
Deluxe Pack | $49.99 | Early Access, Northern Outfit, Wandering Crow Outfit, Darkcloud mount, Ghost nameplate background, Premium Battle Pass, 1,000 Iron Bank Marks |
Ultimate Pack | $89.99 | All Deluxe Pack features, plus additional exclusive items |
How will the full version differ from the Early Access version?
In Early Access, players explore Westeros’ Northern regions, including Castle Black, Winterfell, and beyond The Wall. The limited-time experience includes 50 main chapters, side missions, and PvE challenges.
Meanwhile, the full launch will expand to new areas like the Stormlands, including Storm’s End and Felwood, with added quests, co-op dungeons, and updates.
Platforms
Game of Thrones: Kingsroad will be fully available on PC and mobile devices, including Android and iOS, when it officially launches.
While the game won’t be released on consoles like PS5, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch at launch, these platforms are expected to be added in the future. Netmarble is known for supporting cross-platform functionality, and Kingsroad is highly anticipated to offer seamless gameplay across all devices.
Gameplay and storyline

Set during Game of Thrones Season 4, Kingsroad follows Jon Snow’s defense of the Wall against the White Walkers. The game embraces the show’s darker, mature themes, with the developers even stating it will include many “bloody & sexual scenes.”
“The story of the main characters might be different from the original story, but that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t feel like a ‘Game of Thrones’ story,” Jang continued.
Players will take on the role of a new customizable character who becomes the heir to House Tyre, a small noble house in the North. Unique combat styles and customization features await players as they secure their legacy in the world of Westeros.
Players will explore key locations across Westeros, including Castle Black, Winterfell, and beyond the Wall, while engaging in large-scale battles, completing quests, and forging alliances.
The RPG features real-time combat, allowing players to choose from different character classes each offering unique abilities and fighting styles. Players will battle White Walkers, bandits, and rival factions while navigating the dangerous politics of the Seven Kingdoms.
While the main storyline follows familiar characters and settings, the developers have introduced new twists, ensuring a fresh yet authentic Game of Thrones experience. Future updates will expand the world with additional regions, quests, co-op dungeons, and new characters.
Classes
Kingsroad offers three distinct classes: Assassin, Sellsword, and Knight, each with unique abilities and playstyles. While it’s unclear if more classes will be added in future updates, the Early Access version currently features only these options.
Assassin
The Assassin class delivers swift, precise attacks inspired by the enigmatic Faceless Men, wielding dual daggers with a fluid, dance-like combat style that is both deadly and agile.
Swellsword
The Sellsword class, inspired by the relentless combat of Wildlings and Dothraki, wields massive two-handed axes with a savage, brute-force fighting style designed to overwhelm and crush enemies.
Knights
The Knight class embodies the refined and disciplined swordplay of a true Westerosi warrior, wielding a longsword with masterful precision and calculated strikes to dispatch enemies with elegance and efficiency.
Characters
The confirmed characters so far include Jon Snow and other members of the Night’s Watch, with the Night King and White Walkers as central antagonists. Jamie Lannister has also been featured in trailers and both characters are voiced by their live-action actors; Kit Harrington and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.
Separate teasers have confirmed that Drogon, Daenerys Targaryen’s largest and most fearsome dragon, will make an appearance. Drogon’s presence not only hints at potential dragon-centric gameplay mechanics, but also the iconic Daenerys even potentially joining in future updates.
Given Netmarble’s history of regularly adding content, it is expected that new content and characters from GoT such as Arya Stark, will likely be added via updates.
