Every Monster in Monster Hunter Wilds

The best part about any Monster Hunter game is…well… the Monsters. Here’s a list of all the confirmed Large Monsters for Monster Hunter Wilds.

Since its initial reveal at The Game Awards 2023, fans of the franchise have been patiently waiting for more news on the sixth mainline game of the series. Monster Hunter Wilds came out on February 28, 2025, and we could not be more excited to carve up some new creatures and make them into hats.

So, to get you up to speed, we’ve covered every large monster coming to Monster Hunter Wilds.

Every confirmed Large Monster in Monster Hunter Wilds

Monster Hunter Wilds has 29 monsters, all of which you can find below:

IconMonster nameNew or returning

Chatacabra

MHW monsters

Okay, we know Chatacabra is some sort of giant crocodile/gorilla but is it kind of… cute? We’d die for it to be honest, but perhaps we’re in the minority here.

Seriously, if we weren’t so sure that the armor you make from them is going to look awesome, we might avoid hunting them altogether. Don’t you just wanna hug one?

This amphibious death machine uses its adhesive saliva to “affix stone to their forelimbs in order to power up their attacks”. That’s right, boulder boxing gloves to pummel you with if you’re not careful.

Like Doshaguma, Chatacabra also make the Windward Plains their home.

Quematrice

MHW monsters

Quematrice is technically a Brute Wyvern but we prefer to think of its classification as Murder Chicken. This particular Monster has what people in the scientific community refer to as ‘junk in the trunk’. Seriously, even Capcom called its tail “disproportionately large”.

Related

All that ass isn’t just for show. This fearsome fowl spews a flammable substance all over its habitat and then ignites it by scraping its tail along the ground. How it wound up in the incredibly flammable-looking Windward Plains we’ll never know.

Lala Barina

MHW monsters

Nope. Nope. A thousand times nope. Lala Barina is a Temnoceran and in Monster Hunter speak, that means it’s a big disgusting bug and we want no part of it. Of course, it has been a while since Temnocerans got any sort of love (Rakna Kadaki aside) and we’re sure some people are wrongfully excited about their return.

Lala Barina premiered alongside the Scarlet Forest locale in which this creepy crawly makes its nest. The water that covers the forest floor is suspiciously red and we’re not entirely unconvinced that this thing isn’t somehow responsible for that.

It sports an abdominal spike that looks very stabby which would be perfect for bathing the region in the blood of its victims. It moves in a very erratic fashion that appears to be some sort of dance and if you’re not careful, it could be a dance of death.

For whatever reason, Capcom seems to have decided that Lala Barina will appear in the main storyline of Monster Hunter Wilds and that means that arachnophobes will have to steel themselves for the hunt. Don’t be fooled when it tries to trick you by imitating a pretty flower, this thing should not be touched.

Congalala

MHW monsters

The mischievous pink monkey will be returning in Monster Hunter Wilds and it looks deadlier than ever before. This fan-favorite Fanged Beast is known for its comical fart gas attack, which prevents Hunters from being able to use items.

Congalalas also eat mushrooms that give their breath attacks an elemental twist. We recommend bringing plenty of Deodorants as this will enable you to remove the debuff that prevents item usage.

Balahara

MHW monsters

Balahara marks the return of the incredibly popular Leviathan Monster class and should excite fans of Monster Hunter Tri’s Flagship. This slippery sucker looks like it packs a bit of punch in both large groups and on its own.

They are smarter than they look, too. They use their writhing bodies to create quicksand traps. We’ve already seen them trap poor Doshaguma and it doesn’t look like a great time.

Another Monster that makes the Windward Plains its habitat. We’re sure Hammer mains are already eying its interesting jaw shape and figuring out how to affix it on a stick.

Doshaguma

Doshaguma

This nightmare-inducing fuzzball is Doshaguma and despite being an early-game hunt, it’s no joke. Capcom describes them as “rugged, territorial fanged beasts that exhibit an aggressive disposition”.

Having endured this boss fight, I can say this is a bit of an understatement. These furry behemoths travel around in packs, and I’d hate to see how things pan out if you’re assailed by more than one at a time.

They inhabit the Windward Plains, which can be a desolate desert or vibrant grassland depending on the weather conditions. In more harsh conditions, Doshaguma grows fiercer and more desperate for the limited resources available.

Uth Duna

MHW monsters

We aren’t confirming Uth Duna’s classification as a Leviathan hints at the return of Lagiacrus in Monster Hunter Wilds in a future update, but we aren’t not denying the possibility either. Anyway, enough about other Monsters.

Uth Duna is the big bad apex predator of the Scarlet Forest, and we hope that means it spends its time eating all the Lala Barina before we ever see them. It is commonly seen during the region’s tremendous Downpours and has adapted to the water-rich environment.

It makes use of the bodily fluids it generates to create a protective coating around its body. With this, the Monster can shrug off even the mightiest strikes from a Great Sword or Hammer.

Expect a lot of diving, ducking, dipping, and dodging when you encounter Uth Duna. It may be best to pack a Nulberry or 10 as well because you just know this thing is going to inflict Waterblight.

Rompopolo

MHW monsters

The Oilwell Basin is home to Rompopolo, who lives in the deeper section of the cavernous landscape. This sinister-looking Brute Wyvern uses the gigantic toxin sacs on its body to create noxious fumes, which it spits at Hunters.

It also has a wasp-like stinger that protrudes from its tail and a long tongue that will likely inflict poison damage. If that wasn’t enough, it looks as though Rompopolo can submerge itself under the grimy landscape of the Oilwell Basin.

Bring plenty of Antidotes along and be prepared to dive out of the way of its AoE poison attacks.

Rey Dau

Rey Dau is the terrifying apex predator of the Windward Plains and this powerful foe has perfectly adapted to the area’s harshest weather conditions. When the dreaded sandstorms that plague the region kick up, their intensity is so great that they generate electrical storms.

That’s no problem for Rey Dau, however. This fearsome Flying Wyvern harnesses its own bioelectricity and is immune to the lightning surges that seem so dangerous to everything else in the region. That includes hunters.

This Monster is at the top of the food chain and that’s largely because it can harness its bioelectrical prowess for powerful attacks. Its most threatening method of offense involves its horns folding over its face to create an in-built railgun that fires electricity at unnerving speeds.

Seasoned players know that means Rey Dau will be able to stun them with ease thanks to the impact of Thunderblight. If you want to farm this thing for what we’re sure will be a very stylish getup, best stock up on Nullberries.

Nerscylla

MHW monsters

Nerscylla is another Monster of the Temnoceran class which is bad news for any arachnophobes. It seems to have made its nest in the Iceshard Cliffs and it makes a habit of trapping and eating the local Hirabami.

In combat, it deals massive amounts of poison damage making it a massive pain to fight a protracted battle against. In High Rank and beyond, Nerscylla also gains the ability to put hunters to sleep, as well as a more powerful form of fast-acting poison.

It’s definitely wise to stock up on Energy Drinks and Antidotes if you’re making it your priority target.

Hirabami

MHW monsters

Hirabami is a deadly Leviathan-class Monster that inhabits a frigid region known as the Iceshard Cliffs. It lacerates prey with its pincer-like tail and can blast foes with powerful ice attacks.

Its unique physiology allows it to catch air currents in its hood like a sail. The fierce winds of the Iceshard Cliffs’ frequent blizzards allow Hirabami to float in the air for extended periods of time, making it tough for melee weapons to reach.

Hirabami is sure to be a challenging fight, particularly thanks to the locale it inhabits’ unstable weather conditions. Even with how dangerous it is, it doesn’t hold a candle to the next Monster on this list.

Ajarakan

MHW monsters

Ajarakan, also known as the “red-hot fanged beast” can also be found within the depths of the Oilwell Basin. It has a lot of similarities to Congalala, in that it loves to swing from structures before slamming its claws into the ground.

However, unlike the mischievous monkey, Ajarakan is covered in flame-like spikes that protrude from its back. Ajarakan also appears to have two different states as the monster can be seen digging into the ground, using lava to empower itself with fire-based attacks.

Ajarakan becomes more aggressive during this phase. You’ll want to focus on dodging its colossal claw swipes and stop it from digging into the ground.

Nu Udra

MHW monsters

Nu Udra, or as the locals of Azuz call it, the Black Flame, is a deadly beast inhabiting an even deadlier environment. This mysterious monster has a lot of similarities to a Kraken, as the monster uses its colossal tentacles to ensnare foes.

If that wasn’t terrifying enough, this creature can also spew red-hot flames from its body. We even saw the monolithic monster picking up two Ajarakan.

Guardian Doshaguma & Guardian Rathalos

MHW monsters
  • Guardian Doshaguma: An artificial variant of the Doshaguma you’ve already encountered in Wilds.
  • Guardian Rathalos: An artificial variant of the Rathalos you’ve encountered in previous Monster Hunter games, but not in Wilds.
  • Jin Dahaad

    MHW monsters

Jin Dahaad is the fearsome apex predator of the Iceshard Cliffs region, and it’s one of the most mysterious Monsters that has been revealed in the game so far. It’s big. Like, really big.

Its scales are breakable, and because of its sheer size, it’s one of the most fun monsters to try and beat as an aerial Insect Glaive wielder.

    Guardian Ebony Odogaron

    MHW monsters

This artificial monster is basically a blender with claws and a tail – fast, relentless, and more than happy to carve you up.

Its razor-sharp claws will leave you bleeding, while its whip-like tail ensures you never get a moment to breathe. If it manages to land a dragon-element attack near Wylkcrystals – boom. Instant explosion.

Fortunately, this beast has some major weaknesses. Water works wonders, and it’s hilariously susceptible to pretty much every dirty trick in the book – flash bombs, sonic waves, pitfall traps, thunder traps, you name it.

    Xu Wu

    MHW monsters

Imagine a squid, but meaner, deadlier, and completely uninterested in minding its own business.

This cephalopod predator specializes in taking down Guardian monsters, which should tell you just how nasty it is. Instead of ink, it oozes mucus that hardens into spear-like edges – because why settle for just tentacles when you can have built-in weapons?

Its massive, hidden mouth is capable of swallowing alarmingly large prey, and if you see it open, you’re about to be on the menu. It doesn’t have eyes, but its other senses are top-tier, making sneaky approaches a lost cause.

    Arkveld

    MHW monsters

Arkveld is the flagship monster of Monster Hunter Wilds, also known as the White Wraith. This monster has chain-like wings and is quite aggressive in nature. It uses them to fight Rey Dau, and of course, you.

The story of Wilds centers around Arkveld and its relationship to young Nata. Arkveld was long thought to be extinct, but it seems to have resurfaced and will be the focus of the hunter’s expedition in the forbidden lands.

    Zoh Shia

    MHW monsters

This towering Guardian has been binge-eating Dragontorch energy and now it’s practically bursting with power. Its entire body is encased in crystallized Wyvernmilk, making it a walking, winged fortress.

Specializing in energy-based attacks, it has a nasty habit of triggering chain explosions, turning the battlefield into a minefield of instant crystallization. The good news is you can chip away at the massive crystals on its head and wings to drain its power. The bad news is those crystals grow back, albeit weaker.

Elemental attacks are a double-edged sword. They hurt, but they also cause those crystals to explode in your face. If you don’t feel like playing dodge-the-detonation, Slinger ammo is your best friend.

    Yian Kut-Ku

    MHW monsters

Yian Kut-Ku is a Bird Wyvern that is making its return to the series with Monster Hunter Wilds after featuring in Monster Hunter Online way back in 2013.

Traditionally, this monster is known for its speed on account of its light body and small size. It can throw flaming projectiles through its flame sac when attacked and a maximum of three when enraged.

However, fans can expect changes to its moveset when compared to past titles as Capcom has done in the past with returning monsters in World and Rise.

    Gypceros

    MHW monsters

A Bird Wyvern known for its timid behavior, Gypceros is a first-generation monster that debuted in the original game. It last appeared in the 2017 release of Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate.

Capcom confirmed the creature’s return in its Open Beta Test 2 announcement. A brief gameplay snippet featured in the reveal showed that Gypceros’ charge attack and tail slam can deal devastating blows, which is no surprise since it counts among the largest of Bird Wyverns.

Gypceros has a fair share of formidable defenses, too, thanks in no small part to its shock-resistant hide allowing it to shrug off weapons such as shock traps.

    Rathian

    MHW monsters

No Monster Hunter game would be complete without featuring the Queen of the Land. Yes, Rathian makes her return to Wilds. Unlike her partner, Rathalos, this deadly dragon has a different moveset.

While Rathian also unleashes deadly fireballs and aerial attacks, she is known for her barbed tail which inflicts poison damage. When hit, Hunters will need to take an Antidote or be prepared to watch as their health bar gradually ticks down.

We recommend focusing your attacks on Rathian’s tail to remove it ASAP. Using Flash Pods will also help keep the Flying Wyvern out of the skies.

    Fulgur Anjanath

    MHW monsters

This artificial terror is what happens when an ancient civilization decides to play mad scientist with Fulgur Anjarath’s power. Not only does it wield lightning like a weapon, but it also supercharges itself for even more devastating bite attacks

If you see sparks flying, brace yourself; its electrified fangs aren’t just for show, and a single bite can trigger massive explosions thanks to the Guardian energy coursing through its body. Your best bet is to go for the legs. It’s weak to Water, Ice, and Dragon elemental attacks, and extremely susceptible to Sleep, Paralysis, Blastblight, and Stun.

    Rathalos

    MHW monsters

It wouldn’t be a Monster Hunter game without some variant of Rathalos showing up. This Wyvern was the flagship Monster of the very first entry in the series and it’s back for Monster Hunter Wilds.

We actually caught a glimpse of Rathalos in Monster Hunter Wilds all the way back during the initial reveal in 2023.

What we can tell you is to prepare some Flash Bombs before you hunt one because, without those to knock it out of the sky, it’ll make hunters using melee weapons lives hard. Seriously, Rathalos loves spending time in the sky.

That said, the new weapon-swapping mechanic might mean you can bring a ranged weapon like a Heavy Bowgun along to account for its evasiveness. The Rathalos revenge tour should be legendary.

    Gravios

    MHW monsters

Yet another returning foe in Monster Hunter Wilds, Gravios makes a new home for itself in the Oilwell Basin. This behemoth is as sturdy as they come and can be a real pain to fight as a result.

You’ll want to keep your weapon as sharp as possible when you take it on, or spec into Mind’s Eye on your armor. If not, your attacks will be bouncing off of its thick hide more often than not.

    Blangonga

    MHW

These massive, white-furred fanged beasts don’t just survive in the snowy wilderness – they rule it, commanding packs of lesser Blango to swarm and overwhelm anything that dares step into their domain.

Don’t let the frosty landscape fool you; this beast is fast, ridiculously strong, and more than capable of closing the gap in an instant – so if you thought a long-range weapon would keep you safe, think again. Its powerful limbs let it pounce from absurd distances, meaning nowhere is truly out of reach. And if you spot one with particularly massive tusks, you’ve just found the pack’s leader

    Mizutsune

    Monster Hunter Wilds Mizutsune

Mizutsune is one of the franchise’s most famous monsters, being introduced as one of the Fated Four, the flagship monsters of the Monster Hunter Generations. Mizutsune’s hunt can be tough to master, thanks to the whirlwind of bubbles it spouts.

These hazards will slow you down and chew through your stamina, making it harder to avoid Mizutsune’s charges and water-based attacks. On the other hand, if you master this encounter, it becomes a beautiful dance.

    Gore Magala

    Monster Hunter Wilds Gore Magala

Gore Magala makes its return in Monster Hunter Wilds and that means tough hunts while dealing with its unique Frenzy Virus mechanic. Frenzy Virus blights players and prevents them from recovering health.

It also impacts other monsters in the surrounding area making them more aggressive and capable of dealing more damage. If it’s anything like its previous iterations, this will be a tough fight.

If you do manage to take it down, your rewards will likely be some of the most powerful weapons and armor in the game.

Those are all the confirmed Large Monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds. If you’d like to learn more about the game, you can read about the best weapons.
