Crossplay was finally added to Baldur’s Gate 3 as part of Patch 8, allowing players to join each other’s adventure on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
Baldur’s Gate 3 revolves around party mechanics with a multiplayer feature to play with your friends. However, since it launched back in 2023, there has been no crossplay feature, meaning that you could only group up with players on the same platform as you.
That all changes with the release of Patch 8 on April 15, which introduced full crossplay support alongside 12 new subclasses. Here’ how it works.
BG3 crossplay explained
Going forward, players will be able to join each other’s parties no matter which platform your friends are playing on.
The first thing you need to do is make sure you all have a Larian Network account and that cross-play is enabled in the in-game settings, then follow these steps:
- From the main menu, select “Multiplayer.”
- Head to the “Cross-Play” tab.
- Find the player you wish to join.
- Select them to join their lobby.
Alternatively, if you want to host the session, here’s what you need to do:
- Go into multiplayer.
- Select “Cross-Play.”
- Hit “Create.”
- Choose the options that suit you best.
- Select “Launch.”
It’s important to note that you only join games that have identical mods installed. When you join, you will be prompted to install, alter, or remove any mods to ensure your version of BG3 matches the player hosting the lobby.
This should be a fairly smooth process, but to avoid any confusion, it’s probably best to group up with players who don’t have mods installed or with very similar ones to yours.
Cross-progression
Baldur’s Gate 3 does have cross-progression with the cross-save option. To enable cross-save between PC and console, follow the steps below:
- Launch BG3 on PC
- Create or log in to your Larian account
- Once you’re in the game, open the options menu by pressing the ESC key
- Navigate to the cross-save option under the Gameplay tab
- You can toggle the option on and off from here
- Once you’ve done this and the changes have synced, launch the game on console and enable cross-save via the main menu
- Restart BG3 and a ‘Continue‘ option should be available that contains your existing PC save.

If you’d rather transfer your console save to PC, just follow the steps above starting on console first.
Why can’t I find cross-progression on PC?
There are a couple of reasons cross-progression might not be appearing on your PC, these include:
- Not having a controller connected
- Needing to set up a Larian account
We’d advise you to connect a controller first before attempting to enable cross-progression in Baldur’s Gate 3.
You’ll also need to have an active Larian account for the option to appear in the main menu so make sure you head to their official website and sign-up.
Does BG3 have couch co-op?
Yes, BG3 does support couch co-op which is great for anyone who prefers to play locally instead of online. You can join up to 4 players in a local session with the feature.
