A fourth installment in the Crysis franchise has been confirmed. Here’s everything we know about Crysis 4.
After years of relative silence, Crytek announced in January 2022 that a fourth game in the Crysis series had entered development.
Past job openings suggested the game wouldn’t launch for many years, yet comments from Crytek indicated the long-dormant franchise would return on new-gen systems.
At the time of the initial reveal, company CEO Avni Yerli said in a blog post that Crysis 4 was “in the early stages of development”.

Is there a Crysis 4 release date?
No, Crysis 4 does not have a launch date.
As of April 2023, the studio was still staffing up while working towards building the new story campaign. The project’s status has drastically changed in the nearly two years since then.
In an update posted on Twitter/X, Crytek revealed that it put “development of the next Crysis game on hold in Q3 2024.” The team then shuffled around its crew members to focus on Hunt: Showdown 1896.
But because of the industry’s tumultuous dynamics in recent years, the studio has also laid off 15% of its 400 staffers. “The layoffs affect development teams and shared services,” Crytek shared in part.
The last installment in the series, Crysis 3, launched back in 2013, meaning it’ll have been well over a decade between entries by the time Crysis 4 rolls around.
Thankfully, the trilogy received a remaster in 2021, giving players an opportunity to relive the iconic FPS experiences in 4K.

Crytek’s initial blog post says the “dedicated and talented team is working hard to bring you a truly next-gen shooter,” which suggests the next entry will continue to push visual fidelity as has been the franchise’s tradition.
With that in mind, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch will undoubtedly be left in the dust. And since production is now on hold, there’s no telling if Crytek’s next-gen ambitions may venture beyond even the PS5 and Xbox Series S|X consoles.
