Everything we know about Control 2

A sequel to 2019’s Control is officially in the works at Remedy Entertainment. Here’s everything we know so far about Control 2.

Control was a sci-fi action game from Remedy Entertainment and 505 Games in which a government agency investigated paranormal events. The game shared a lot of similarities with Remedy’s previous titles like Alan Wake and Quantum Break, but was very much its own entity.

A sequel was announced in June 2021, but in November 2022, Remedy and 505 Games revealed they had both signed an agreement to co-develop and co-publish Control 2, formerly known as Codename Heron.

This arrangement has changed, with Remedy acquiring the rights to Control from 505 in February 2024. The transaction reverted all rights to Control, FBC: Firebreak, and Control 2 to Remedy.

Other details have also surfaced since the initial reveal, so here’s what we know.

Does Control 2 have a release date?

No, there is not a release date for Control 2 as of yet.

In a February 2025 financial report, Remedy told investors, “Control 2 has been finalizing the production readiness stage and entered full production after the end of the fourth quarter in February 2025.”

By the end of February 2025, then, the Control follow-up will have entered full production. The report additionally said of protagonist Jesse Faden’s next adventure, “the project has verified the velocity of asset creation, established production pipelines, and is ready for scaling up for production.”

What platforms will Control 2 be on?

As of writing, there’s no official word on which platforms players should expect Control 2 to launch on.

We suspect the game will come to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, though its entering production five years into the current console generation could mean it won’t be ready until next-gen hardware rolls around.

Gameplay and setting

Control revolves around the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC), a secret U.S. government agency tasked with containing and studying phenomena that violate the laws of reality. The game is heavily inspired by stories from the SCP Foundation, which are community-led internet horror stories and creepypastas.

In the original game, some of the supernatural phenomena break loose and the player must contain them, taking advantage of the superpowers they develop as a result. The game is also set in the Remedy Connected Universe alongside Alan Wake, which also involves normal people dealing with supernatural entities.

It’s unknown if Control 2 will connect to the story presented in Alan Wake 2, but anything is possible, since the latter’s Lake House DLC starred an FBC agent investigating a bureau facility.
