CD Projekt Red warns fans of The Witcher 4 Beta Test “scam”

The Witcher 4 Ciri reveal

CD Projekt Red has addressed concern in the community as some fans of the studio reported being sent an invitation for a Witcher 4 Beta Test. The devs shut down any notion of a public test, labelling these invites a “scam.”

We’ve known about The Witcher 4 for a number of years now, even before it was officially called The Witcher 4. Swapping to follow the perspective of Ciri instead of Geralt, the highly anticipated sequel has fans on tenterhooks waiting for any scrap of information they can get their hands on.

Although there’s no release date set just yet, and historically, CD Projekt Red titles have been exclusively singleplayer, that hasn’t stopped some eager fans from reportedly falling for a trap.

Beta Test invitations have allegedly been making the rounds, with some players ‘signing up’ for what they believed to be an early build of The Witcher 4. As it turns out, that’s clearly not the case, and devs have chimed in to warn any other fans from engaging with the “scam.”

The Witcher 4 Beta Test labeled a “scam” by CD Projekt Red

“Recently, we’ve been getting reports from some community members that they’ve been invited to a beta test of The Witcher 4,” the official Witcher account shared on X (formerly Twitter). “This is a scam,” they said, not mincing words.

“We’ve been taking the necessary steps to take this fraudulent messaging down. That said, if you receive any invites to or stumble upon news of one, we kindly ask you to report the scam.”

Thus, there is no Beta Test of any kind for The Witcher 4. After all, there’s been no word on a multiplayer component for the upcoming sequel, so a Beta wouldn’t make a great deal of sense. CD Projekt Red was quick to remind fans of this very fact.

“Should we ever organize any beta tests in the future, you will hear about it first, as always, via our official social media and websites.”

As it’s still early days yet, devs had no further updates to provide on the status of The Witcher 4’s development. The first cinematic trailer debuted during the 2024 Game Awards, but there’s no telling when we might see proper gameplay.
