Borderlands 4 price confirmed following scandal

Psycho pointing in Borderlands 4

After weeks of outrage, director Randy Pitchford walk-backs, and internet brawls, we finally have an official price for Borderlands 4.

Players can breathe easy, as Borderlands 4 will not launch at the dreaded $80 price. On June 16, 2025, 2K revealed the game will stick to the standard $69.99 tag.

The whole price paranoia started when rumors pointed to an $80 base price. Fans revolted. And then, Randy Pitchford, Gearbox CEO, poured oil on the loot fire by saying the final price wasn’t his call and added, “If you’re a real fan, you’ll find a way.”

As if it wasn’t enough, he then compared the situation to buying a $80 game in 1991, which fans did not enjoy. The backlash came fast. Reddit roasted him. X tore him apart.

Pitchford said he “misspoke,” and apologized for using the phrase “real fans.” He insisted he respected everyone’s budgets. But the sting stuck.

Borderlands 4 won’t cost you $80, but that doesn’t mean it won’t cost you plenty

Finally, Pitchford dropped a message on his official X account that read: “The big news: No price increase for Borderlands 4! Standard Edition launches not at $80, but at $69.99! They’re showing you, so please show them.”

Translation: “Crisis averted, now please pre-order.”

And pre-order you can. As revealed on the Borderlands official X account, the Standard Edition is $69.99, the Deluxe is a whooping $99.99, while the Super Deluxe costs $129.99 – silent prayers for your bank account. The top tier packs in two extra Vault Hunters, new regions, missions, cosmetics, weapons, and DLC galore.

Still, Borderlands isn’t the only one riding the Deluxe gravy train. Mario Kart World hit $80 with a smile and a banana peel. Pricing in 2025 is less about value and more about how much FOMO you can afford.

But for Borderlands 4 fans, the fire’s cooled for now. The game promises grappling, gliding, chaos, co-op, and another loot-heavy planet ruled by a time-obsessed tyrant.

It’s loud, it’s ridiculous, and it’s launching on September 12, 2025. And at least, for now, it’s still under $70.
