The Insect Glaive in Monster Hunter Wilds is all about agility, aerial combat, and precise Kinsect management. Mastering this weapon means staying mobile and maximizing your buffs.
But it’s not all about skills; there’s a fair share of calculations and improvements you must make at the Smithy to get the most of this build. Otherwise, you’ll end up with 10-minute hunts prolonged for over 15 or 20 minutes.
In this guide, I’ll show you the best Insect Glaive build for lower and high ranks in Monster Hunter Wilds.
Best Insect Glaive build in Monster Hunter Wilds
Best low rank Insect Glaive build
The best low rank in Monster Hunter Wilds utilizes the Udra Armor set which provides Speed Eating and Resentment.
With the whole combo, you’ll get a very quick recovery rate since you’ll be able to chug potions and meals super quickly. You’ll also be able to toy with the damage received since Resentment increases your attack while you have recoverable health.
HEAD | TORSO | ARMS | WAIST | LEGS |
---|---|---|---|---|
Udra Mirehelm Resentment Lvl 1 | Udra Miremail Resentment Lvl 1 Speed Eating Lvl 1 | Udra Mirebraces Speed Eating Lvl 1 | Udra Mirecoil Resentment Lvl 1 | Udra Miregreaves Speed Eating Lvl 1 |
Best of all, the whole set rewards you with the Bad Blood II skill, which increases the damage dealt by Resentment.
The best weapon for low rank Insect Glaive build is the Bone Staff III. As boring as the choice may be, the skills it provides, Focus Lvl 2 and Attack Boost Lvl. 1, are undeniably solid for this build. You’ll be using focus super often to harvest extracts with your Kinsects, so a boost definitely help.
I also recommend building the Free Meal Talisman so you get the chance to consume food or drinks to heal and recover stamina without wasting supplies.
Best high rank Insect Glaive build
The best high rank Insect Glaive gear consists of items from the Guardian Fulgur β set and the Guardian Seikret Coil β.
All these gear pieces come with two jewelry items, which allows you to customize the Glaive’s skills based on our recommendations. The key to this outfit is the Seikret Coil, since it provides you the Earplugs and Jumpmaster skills, both of which ensure you can leap into and stay in the air without getting stunned by enemies screaming.
HEAD | TORSO | ARMS | WAIST | LEGS |
---|---|---|---|---|
Guardian Fulgur Helm β Agitator Lvl 2 | Guardian Fulgur Mail β Maximum Might Lvl 1 | Guardian Fulgur Vambraces β Maximum Might Lvl 1 | Guardian Seikret Coil β Earplugs Lvl 1 Jumpmaster Lvl 1 | Guardian Fulgur Greaves β Stamina Surge Lvl 1 Coalescense Lvl 1 |
As you reach the endgame, you’ll find the Stealth Glaive to be one of the most effective among the bunch. It deals solid damage and grants the Charge Master and Focus skills, which blend perfectly with the Insect Glaive.

Best Insect Glaive skill explained
Free Meal
Gives you a predetermined chance of consuming food or a drink for free. This is ideal if you want to mantain your buffs or heal when you’re on one of those extended hunts.
Recovery Speed
Speed the healing of recoverable health. You’ll be chugging potions quite often; but when you’re not, you’ll be able to enhance the natural healing process with this skill.
Speed Eating
Speed eating increases the speed at which you eat or drink consumables. You’ll be on the air quite a lot, so when you come down, it’s time to chug drinks and meals quickly.
Part breaker
Makes it easier to break large monster parts, and increases damage dealt when destroying a wound with a Focus Strike. Targeting specific monster parts is a must, and you’ll be using Focus a lot.
Jump Master
Jump Master prevents you from getting knocked down while you’re jumping, which as a mostly Aerial class, you’ll be doing a lot of. Your aerial maneuvers won’t go interrupted anymore as long as you’ve got this skill equipped.
Critical Status
Increases abnormal status effects like Paralysis, Poison, Sleep, and Blast. Your Kinsecs will be inflicting all these status effects when you fire them, so increasing the damage they deal certainly is effective.
Power Prolonger
With Power Prolonger, your Glaive stays powered up for longer. The Glaive needs to be powered up to deal the most damage through your combos, and this helps you do just that.
Attack Boost
Attack boost increases – you guessed it – the attack power. A little extra oomph never hurts anybody.
Focus
Focus increases the fill rate for weapons with gauges and the charge rate for weapons with charge attacks. Again, your Kinsects rely heavily on Focus, so this skill is a must.
How to play the Insect Glaive
Insect Glaive wielders have a melee weapon, the Glaive, and a six-legged companion, a Kinsect.
You can use the Glaive to deal damage through combos in close combat, preferably while staying in the air.
That said, to truly make this build shine, you’ve got to use your Kinsects to harvest red, white, and orange Extracts and unlock more combos and buffs.
Depending on which are of a monster you target the Kinsect harvest toward, you’ll see a red, white, green, or orange extract color. This, in turn, can provide one of the following buffs:
- Red Extract: Enables charged attacks for 90 seconds.
- White Extract: Increases movement speed and jump height for 120 seconds.
- Orange Extract: Grants Flinch Free for 150 seconds.
- Green Extract: Recovers Health.
These also work in combination, adding an extra buff on top of those original effects.
- Red + White → Increased attack power
- White + Orange → Increased defense
- Red + White + Orange → Maximum attack boost and altered attack animations.

Once you’ve got your first round of extracts collected, it’s just a matter of unleashing combos while harvesting more to keep the momentum up.
The classic aerial circle attack keeps you mobile, while the Descending Slash – especially with red extract – delivers devastating damage. The Leaping Strike is great for extracting multiple essences at once.
In addition to all of the above, you can fire Kinsects directly to inflict negative status ailments to monsters, like Poison and Paralysis. The status ailment inflicted is determined by the type of Kinsect you equipped.
