Asmongold hopped into Monster Hunter Wilds for the first time on stream and gave the sequel a warm reception and while also comparing it to Monster Hunter: World.
Seven years on from the last mainline entry in the series, Monster Hunter Wilds is finally here. The long-awaited sequel retains many of the core elements that make the series so beloved, from powerful weapons and armor to, of course, huge beasts to hunt down and slay.
We called it “triumphant” in our four out of five-star review, but it’s now time for the general public to get their hands on it. One player who got involved right away was popular streamer Asmongold, who smashed through the first four hours or so with thousands watching.
As someone who invested plenty of hours in MH: World, he was quick to render a verdict and notice the major difference.
Asmongold claims Monster Hunter Wilds is way easier than World
Asmon’s biggest takeaway from his first few hours was the difference in difficulty compared to Monster Hunter: World, as he argued that the fights in the sequel are much less challenging.
“For me, it was way, way, way, way, way easier than World,” he explained after his chat asked for early thoughts, before later adding: “The monster health pools are much lower in my opinion. And also there are more attacks that you can poise through.”
“In World, there were more attacks that would knock you back and knock you down, there are more now that you can attack through, which makes it so you have less damage denial. So you’re going to be doing hunts faster because of that.”
While he felt that the sequel tones down the difficulty, he did caveat this by saying that playing Worlds and investing 40 hours in the Wilds beta has likely helped breeze through the first few encounters, as he hasn’t had to learn the ropes.
He did slightly criticize the graphics on display, saying that it’s not a “huge upgrade” from the previous game. But, ultimately, he enjoyed his time with the game and was eager to continue.
“From my perspective, this is just more of the same good game. I like Monster Hunter: World and I like this game too, it was really fun,” he continued: “My plan is I want to 100% this game.”
As the streamer pointed out, launch is only the beginning for any Monster Hunter release, so expect plenty of fresh content in the coming months. To make sure you’re prepared, check out the best Long Sword build and Light Bowgun build.
